Another "responsible" gun owner LYING to cover his own irresponsible ass...

Connecticut man shoots self while biking and claims it was hoodie-wearing ‘gang’

A Connecticut man, who accidentally shot himself while riding a bicycle, was arrested this week after lying to police and saying that a “gang” of men wearing black hoodies had attacked him.

The Connecticut Post reported that Stratford police were notified on Thursday that 22-year-old Wendell Docteur was being treated for a gunshot wound to his right leg. Docteur told officers that he was riding his bike “when he was confronted by a half dozen men, dressed all in black with hooded sweatshirts covering their faces,” according to the paper.

Docteur claimed that the gang had robbed him of his money and then yelled, “North End, North End,” as they fled. The North End is a neighborhood in Bridgeport.

But Docteur finally admitted that the gun in his waistband had gone off and he had shot himself after he was not able to explain why there was only a hole where the bullet exited from his pants. He was also not able to tell police what happened to his handgun after the incident.

Docteur was charged with making a false statement, unlawful discharge of a firearm and failing to report a lost firearm. He was released $10,000 bond. A hearing was scheduled for Superior Court court on Sept. 5.

Sure are a lot of people shooting themselves (or others) accidentally out there. That's the problem with the whole "responsible gun owner" myth

I'm sure this guy thought he was one of them. But apparently they are about as rare as unicorns.

Oh. Well I'm sure increased gun training will help alleviate issues like above. I will petition for federal aid to be made available for the purpose of training effective and responsible gun owners.

You support the government getting involved, don't you? You like helping people better themselves? :chesh:

I have no problem with requiring people to go through a gun safety course - a good one - before getting a gun, and requiring them to be retrained on a regular basis. However, if they can afford a gun and bullets, they can pay for the training on their own. If you want to work with the NRA to start a scholarship fund, feel free.

Now wait a second....I wouldn't call it a "myth". The vast majority of gun owners are truly responsible people.

They keep their guns locked up unloaded in gun safes when they aren't using them, they don't have idiotic ideas of armed rebellion, they don't buy .22's for their elementary school kids. When their kids do reach the age where they are legally allowed to hunt, they make them take hunter's safety courses and teach them the same responsibility that they themselves practice.

Just because we have a select few on here that seem to be infatuated about paramilitary equipment and have a HUGE distrust of our government, does not mean they are the norm....they are truly the exception....as are the dumbasses like the "gentleman" in this article.

The problem is.....you hear nothing about Truly responsible gun owners....because they don't scream bloody murder about their 2nd Amendment right to own whatever anti-personnel weapons they want, and they don't do stupid shit like ride a bike with a bullet in the chamber with the safety off.

Require? No. Make money available for the express purpose of training gun users to be effective? yes.

Then if people on welfare can afford cigarettes, then they can afford the rest of what they need.

oh, ok, since it's you... I'll take back the "myth" comment.

However, I think the %age who are responsible is lower than the NRA and others of their ilk would have us think.

I think you're mistaken....unless you are including illegal gun owners...like Gang Members and other violent criminals.

Gun courses?

You really need to read all the posts and have an adult explain the difficult ones for you.

That is, unless you have tekkychick on ignore!!

I bolded certain parts, to aid you in your reading.

That's not true. The vast majority of gun owners are responsible nor are they fanatics. Almost everyone I grew up with is a gun owner and they take safety, damned serious. One of the worst beatings I received as a teen was for violating gun safety. Had my gun taken away too. The primary reason I don't own a gun now is....well.....my wife has to live with me.....and I like living! ;)
