No. I think institutions and corporations should not even record gender and race data.

I only use white male as a description of individuals because that's the basis on which those individuals are attacked by society. I'm reclaiming the term. Like rappers calling each other the N-word. Empowerment includes co-opting and neutralizing the language of the oppressor.

I agree, I just think... I don't know... it just seems a bit 'sleazy' to hang him with this... ya know? He wasn't making these comments in a bar or out in public somewhere, he wasn't giving an interview, or even talking drunk out of his head to a cop on video... he was having a 'private' phone convo... yet it's all over the Internet, all over the news, all over the world for everyone to hear... it just seems a bit over the top and unfortunate. Like I said, not defending what he said or his actions, and I can certainly fault him for the other stuff he has pulled, but this just seems a little unethical, to take his private phone conversation and run around playing it for the world.

I always liked Mel in his movies, and thought he was a fairly good actor, I guess it's just hard to see someone like that being mean and hateful. It reminds me of the book I read by one of Bing Crosby's kids, describing life in the Crosby family... We all knew Bing as a funny and witty personality, who was very well liked by the public... his daughter says he would get drunk and mad, and beat them with sacks of oranges! Hard to imagine Bing Crosby being that way... but that's what she said.

Alcohol destroys not just the alcoholic, but those caught in the cross fire. It's the one drug that gets "the pass", "the nudge", the "wink-wink" from a majority of people.

It's the disease that tells you you don't have a disease. It's the disease that erases the total ass you were the night(s) before and tells you the next time it is going to be different.

It's the substance that once you put it in the body of an alcoholic they don't know where it's going to take them. It might take 20 drinks to catch a buzz and yet other times two beers can put you on your a$$.

It's glamorized, Hollywoodized, and still brushed aside as "no big deal".

Nothing worse than seeing a person schnockered out of their brains saying the same thing over and over again slurring their words and talking incoherently, alternating between crying like a baby and raging mad the next; and not being able to recall a thing about it the next day.

The only problem is that you don't know what you are talking about with mj. Marijuana does not do near the damage (if any) to the brain as constant alcohol use does. It does not have the same addictive qualities either. It may well be damaging but it is not even close to being on the same level that alcohol is.

Further, the facts are that there are tons of things that can do damage to the brain. Alcohol abuse is unique because of the degree of damage.

I have compassion for Mel too, because I know what alcohol can do. The good news is our brains are capable of regenerating cells and so he may still be able to undo the damage. But as we age that process slows and Mel is getting close to the point of no return if he has not already passed it.

I sincerely hope he gets sober and gets back in touch with Whoopi too, to remind himself that his father was an idiot.

Okay, sorry. You have not really shared your views on it much to where I know what your concern is on mj and some people grossly overstate the problems.

I agree it should not be seen as no big deal, but it isn't the same as alcohol. Diet can mess with your brain too, in very significant ways.

Alcohol is a very dangerous substance in excess. Some people are fine with it and can do it responsibly and some are not. Some people are not good with mj. But, the level of damage is like night and day as well as the addictive qualities.

All that is not necessarily directed at you or your post, so quit getting all butt hurt. It's just my general observations.
