Who The "F" is Trump to decide the fate of Ben Frankilin's Post Office?

Like I told another poster, you think you've got something to bitch about now, just wait to see the price mark ups you'll face if the USPS does fold for privatization.

And...when fuel goes up in price, USPS spends billions more/year.

And a private company wouldn't? My previous point stands....if you think not, then compare the prices of your local USPS to one of those privately owned mailbox annex's. Or compare USPS to Fedex and UPS prices.

Not sure who you think you're arguing with?

Then I misunderstood your last statement in relation to the discussion.

Fixing the Post Office is like fixing the CIA or the fixing Pentagon.....lot's of our better people have tried....no one has had success.

To date, trump is the only one actively working to destroy the CIA/Pentagon.

Republicans have been working for decades to kill the USPS.

Give it time.

So the answer is to try and force it out of business with GOP legislation requiring FUTURE pension payments?

Like I said before, let's see folk like you eat chit and call it ice cream if the post office folds and you have to pay all those HIGHER rates for the "free market" competitors that will take it's place. Or are you in denial that USPS next day is less expensive than Fedex or UPS?

Postal service is like healthcare. It is something you need. If the wealthy can privatize it, they will gouge us to shit. They have no interest in making it better or cheaper. It is just a way to loot. The corporations and wealthy have spent decades trying to destroy it. Forcing them to amass the cost of future retirees 75 years in advance was one way they did it. The post office is a non profit service. They do not get tax money.

I claim that the government has an obligation to run a post office that serves all, and that it has for a generation failed to accomplish the mission well. As well I claim that the "The post office is not a government operation" lie was cheap, and that the government should have never gotten away with it. I say the same thing about Amtrak.

Ahh, clearly you have one of those anti-gov't hard-on. Get over it.

You claim a lot of stuff....pity you can't back it up with facts and the logic derived from those facts. Nothing is perfect, but the USPS has sure as hell been getting the mail in decent time to the vast majority of Americans in the 50 states in a decent fashion since my grandparents time. You didn't directly respond to the my points in the previous post because you're incapable of conceding a point that contradicts your world view. Sad.

But to clarify for your edification just how the USPS functions in one aspect: http://postalnews.com/blog/2015/05/09/postal-myths-2-the-usps-is-not-a-government-agency/

The Post Office has been delivering a de facto profit to the taxpayers for decades now. They pay the US Government for pensions on employees who have not been born yet. The US Government basically owes them money.

On top of that, they are able to deliver federal government services to the American people for free. You need a passport, go to the post office. You need to register for the draft, go to the post office.

And they are required to carry junk mail at bizarrely low costs. The lobbyists for the junk mail industry has forced them to do that.

They subsidize deliveries to people in rural areas. Some of those people will be totally cut off without the USPS.

There is no private sector replacement for them. When the package delivery people cannot get to a location, they hand it off to the USPS. The package delivery people do not even try to deliver normal letters.

Can you imagine if every bill cost $20 to deliver? It would mean that you would have to add $20 to every bill you pay. Some of us would be able to switch to online billing, but many people cannot accept that. They would be forced to pay another $1k or so a year.

 That's the best you've got?!! That was the lamest smoke blow by a defeated right wing wonk I've seen in years! Classic! Keep 'em coming, toodles….very entertaining!

Trump did not come up with destroying the PO. The Reds have been targeting it for decades. It operates with no tax money, being funded bt stamps and water they sell. The Repubs passed a bill forcing the PO to fund retirements 75 years in advance. They were stashing money for retirees who not even born yet. It was designed to break the post office and justify privatizing it. You will not get better cheaper delivery if they succeed. Same old Republican shit, looting the people is their game and they are able to convince the simple-minded repubs that it is a great idea.
