Then she can be trained to bark at intrusion.

Be inside with her .. have a friend walk around your house at night making slight noises .. when she responds with a bark .. "good girl, what is that?"

She'll soon learn to talk to you with her voice.
 
Or keep it in a lockbox designed for a firearm.

Mine can be opened in a second or two, and its not that expensive.


My daughter is 12, and she is an excellent shot and is better at following the safety rules than many adults we see at the range.

Its not hard to keep guns safely.

Nope. It's fine to keep a loaded weapon easily accessible. The key is to teach about guns and instill respect for them, not lock them away like a moron.

Burglars have no way on knowing that you have a gun in your house .. and even if you do, it's useless while you're asleep or not at home. When the dog alerts you to their presence, they won't enter knowing that you may have time to get your gun or that you may have called 911.

Burglars usually avoid homes with dogs.

Crime deterred.

I say get a gun and a dog. They are not mutually exclusive. Does that logically satisfy your assault on the second amendment?
 
We had our dog put down in January. I still miss him. We will get another sometime.

But for now I protect hearth & home. Or my wife will do so while I am away.


I prefer both a dog and a gun.


Me being asleep isn't going to last long when someone breaks in.

I really don't care a damn about the 2nd Amendment or Americans and their love of guns.

My point was and is that a dog is a better deterrent than a gun against burglary and they won't shoot your kids or kill your wife in an argument.

If you feel the need for a gun .. I really don't care.

But someone who really wants to do you harm can shoot your dog. Then what einstein? Oh you can only maintain your argument if we keep the discussion on simple burglary? Thought so.

You can believe that bullshit if you must, but guns don't dissuade crime .. iof thta were true burglars wouldn't exist. They sneak in at night or when you're not home to get around your gun.

Dog present .. they usually go somewhere else.

Relax folks. No one is saying don't have guns. This is simply a discussion of what is good to have to stop a burglary.

I like a dog, but it doesn't help when I travel. It also isn't going to help until I get another dog, and even then it will be a while before the puppy grows enough to be useful.

But there is no need for hostility.
