You know, in the case of Waco, the ATF agents brought that on themselves. They could have arrested Koresh in Waco when he went to town, which he did regularly. Instead, they decided to storm his compound with guns out to serve a "no-knock" warrant and had made sure the press was riding along.
They then committed to a half-assed plan of action against people they knew could potentially be armed and violent. That was total dumbfuckery on their part.

The ATF wanted a big take down to justify their funding to Congress. The ATF got took down instead. Going up to a bunch of paranoid people who are armed to the teeth while in a cattle trailer was pretty stupid. The ATF should be absorbed into other law enforcement agencies.

Deputies of the United States Marshals Service came to arrest Randy Weaver under a bench warrant for his failure to appear on federal firearms charges.
During a surveillance operation, officer Art Roderick shot Weaver's dog when it ran at them and then pointed his rifle at Weaver's 14-year-old son, Samuel, who was armed. Samuel fired at the marshals, and was shot and killed. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Weaver's friend Kevin Harris shot and killed Deputy Marshal William Francis Degan Jr. Weaver, Harris and members of Weaver's immediate family then refused to surrender. The Hostage Rescue Team of the Federal Bureau of Investigation became involved as the siege was mounted. In the standoff, FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi shot Weaver, then shot Harris, but the second shot also hit and killed Weaver's wife Vicki.

1. Weaver - broke no law passed by congress. Violated an administrative rule enacted by BATF with no legislation behind it at the coercion of a BATF clerk playing cop. When the Deputy Marshall raided Weavers home they shot the family dog who was rightfully barking at armed intruders. They then murdered 14 year old Sammy Weaver. Only then did Kevin Harris shoot and kill the armed invaders. Two juries found that Harris acted properly and the Dugan and his thugs were engaged in an illegal assault. Then the government used an FBI assassin - a violation of laws actually passed by Congress - to murder a mother as she held her baby. A federal jury found that Weaver was innocent. A second jury awarded Weaver $1.2 million in damages for the wrongful death of Vicki. An Idaho Grand Jury issued an indictment for murder against FBI assassin Lon Horiuchi.

Had he obeyed the court subpoena, none of that shit would have happened.
