It's only in the last few years that grades became an issue. People can get poor grades and then make up for it in other ways later, so for me they're just part of the total picture. I think college performance can show responsibility, judgment, application, and ability to make good choices. Perry wanted to be a vet, and it's harder to get into vet school than into human medical school. He did poorly in the sciences and apparently didn't buckle down hard in most of his other subjects, either. His college transcript is uneven. He didn't have a realistic picture of his abilities.
Now, what did he take away from the college experience, and gain through his career and life experiences? He's made some pretty stupid comments, IMO. "Global warming may be a hoax." "Evolution is a theory that's out there... God is how we got here." "Galileo got outvoted for a spell" (defending his position on climate change). "Ben Bernanke is almost treasonous." "Social security's a Ponzi scheme."
On the Issues shows a lot of his other opinions castigating the government and advocating a standalone policy for the states. Perry thinks government is too big yet he's been sucking off the teat for over 25 years.
Comments like these don't encourage me to think that this is a man who will give thoughtful consideration to the breadth of issues that confront a president. He sounds like his mind's made up and people can take it or leave it. We had that with bush and it didn't work. Now I don't agree with 100% of Obama's decisions, but I do believe he has the capability of weighing all sides of an issue before making a decision. I'd like to see a little more of this from Perry but am not hopeful that we will.
