Mostly for exactly the same reason why Hillary lost in 2016: voters disliked the candidate so much they either voted for the other guy or stayed home.
In both cases, the party faithful of the losing side had too many people refusing to vote. Easy to figure since about 40% of Americans don't vote anyway.
Only about 30% or less of Americans belong to either the Democratic or Republican Parties meaning about 70% of Americans refuse to be a member of the opposing side.
I've always bet that the odds favored Republicans taking both the Senate and the House in 2022. The SCOTUS decision threw a monkey wrench in those odds but the economy has brought it back a bit. Especially for the House. The Senate is still dicey.
It's not whether the Republicans win, but what they do with it if they do. Will they become traitorous oath-breakers? Or will they honor their oaths? I'm curious to see how it all plays out.
