Who Has 6 Bestsellers? Hint: He ain't a Liberal!

It's funny... We hear Liberals constantly belittling Conservatives, making fun of Sarah Palin or George Bush, and by extension, all people on the right... we are just a bunch of uneducated inbred hicks, and the Liberals are sophisticated and more educated. Universities are dominated by Liberal professors, and Liberals in general, have adopted an intellectually superior view of themselves.

The funny part... Glenn Beck tops the NYT Bestsellers list for the 6th time today, with his latest book. A few months ago, Sarah Palin's book debuted at #1, something extremely rare for a losing VP contender the previous election. Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly... all routinely at the top of the Bestsellers list... It seems the people who are successful at writing books in America, are mostly Conservatives, and it seems Conservatives are mostly who are buying books.

Is that because Liberals already know everything, and thus, no longer need to read books?
:)

Flies like shit and there are billions of them, so are they right?

The public also flocked in droves to make Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen the 10th highest grossing film of all time in America, continues to sustain the career of Martin Lawrence and were far from economical with their cash when it came to purchasing the musical offerings of Vanilla Ices and MC Hammers.

Let's hear it for the public.

I think James Michener, an admited liberal, had nearly 40 best sellers. I wonder if Dixie would compare him to Glenn Beck.

I also wonder if Dixie has ever read Howard Zinn, Molly Ivans or Bill Moyers.

I wonder if Dixie would compare Glenn Beck to Bill Moyers?

Dixie, your post has little or no relevance. The fact that Beck has 6 books that have made it to the Bestseller List is meaningless without some sort of basis for comparison to other writers.

Dr. Seuss has been on the best seller list. I doubt he is proof that small children are intelligent and sophisticated.

The only thing Beck's books being best sellers means is that he has lots of fans. There are plenty of people who buy his books because they agree with his ideology, not because they are particularly well written books.

being on top of a best seller list means 'a lot of people buy my books'.... it does not mean 'I am the smartest and rightest and liberals are idiots'

That said... liberals do tend to be idiots. :)

Jackie Collins has 27 bestsellers. Must mean she is a GREAT writer. I mean that is what Dixie was trying to prove here right?

Why is it always assumed that only conservatives buy "conservative" books?

With only so much to spend on books, and only so many hours to read, why would anyone other than a conservative buy Beck's books?

because half of his listeners are liberals trying to get their rage on. how can they know what to bitch about regarding Beck if they don't listen to him and read his books?

Spandex pants on fat women was very popular in the 80's, it dont make it right!

That makes sense if all of his books were like his TV and radio show, but he has written a variety of books, from a children's book to novels, with a couple of predictable political books as well.

It just struck me as one of those weird things that make you go hmmmm... Red Stater's are supposed to be knuckledragging illiterates who are too stupid to read, but conservative readers routinely propel conservative writers to #1 on the Bestseller list. Just going by the rhetoric from the left, you'd think a conservative book would be a bomb, and the conservative reader market wouldn't be worth fooling with. You would expect to see the #1 Bestseller list dominated by the "more educated and sophisticated" pinhead liberals!

Glenn Beck is a blue stater that is a hell of business man and has figured out that the old adage that a fool and his money are easily parted rings particularly true of jackass right-wingers when it comes to things that merely affirm what they already believe to be true. Hence, Glenn Beck, a sophisticated businessman, rakes in the cash from the rubes.

THIS...

Glenn Beck is merely SCHICK. I wonder if he is really a conservative in real life.

"...experts say the tough language and name-calling falls directly in the arc of American political tradition.

In other words, we've always been a democracy of schoolyard taunts and gossipy innuendo. It's just that more of us now seem to be buying books about it.

"Most people today buy political information because they like to hear it and they agree with it," says David Perlmutter, a political communications specialist at the University of Iowa, where he watches as the quadrennial presidential caucuses play out with varying degrees of venom. "People tend to read blogs that support their existing beliefs, left and right. So it's no surprise that they buy books that basically tell them what they want to hear. … People feel good about hearing their own anger and excitement articulated by someone else."

Whether that's good for the democracy is up for debate.

"We live in an argument-driven world," says Peter Osnos, founder and editor at large of PublicAffairs books, which publishes more even-tempered titles such as "Power Hungry: The Myths of 'Green' Energy and the Real Fuels of the Future."

And the volume has gone up, he says, beginning with the political right's early grasp of the power of talk radio after the Federal Communications Commission relaxed the "fairness doctrine" doctrine in 1987 and cleared the airwaves for one-sided broadcast programs.

so you have a political and economic agenda, you take control of the airwaves, you hire carnies like Beck and Limbaugh and you put them on everyday to push their ghost written propaganda. Sure you're going to separate some fools from their money. I think the main point is to persuade people to believe in something that is actually against their own best interest.

Good christ, I think that's the first time you've ever told the truth on this board! :hand:

If it's marketed to the Tea Bag cabal, I imagine it has a lot of pictures, and printed in 48-point font.

Nah, it's because educated liberals aren't as prone to spending money to read retarded propaganda, or reading buffoonish diatribes written at a fourth grade level.

For one thing, liberals aren't as prone to paying good money to hear a bunch of bullshit. We don't fall for comical lies, bombastic blather, and easily disproven horseshit....aren't you the dudes that routinely fall for hilarious and transparent lies like the Iraq War, Climate Gate, and deregulation follies?

I think the other thing is that liberals are usually about 20 years ahead of Tea Bag partiers in the realm of technology. We read a lot of shit online, and when we read books, is usually actual literature...not pulp drivel written by NeoCon nincompoops. As for NeoCon dominance of radio.... Hey man, why are you cons still even listening to "talk radio". That's so freaking 1980s. It's the 21st century, man!
