At least it looks like a white crowd in the photos. Surfing? While I don't like riots, I can understand rioting for economic reasons or for legal justice reasons. But surfing?

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Police say eight people have been arrested after a rowdy crowd surged through downtown in the Southern California city of Huntington Beach after the U.S. Open of Surfing, fighting and damaging property.

It happened Sunday night.

Lt. John Domingo tells KNX-AM a large fight broke out, and when officers tried to break it up, the mob surged downtown.

A bicycle shop was looted, and TV reports showed people brawling, overturning a portable toilet, rocking a truck and throwing a chair into a fountain.

Police from several cities were called in. Domingo says arrests were made for disturbing the peace, unlawful assembly and inciting a riot. One person was held for assault with a deadly weapon on an officer.

Police will look at video, and more arrests could be made.

The weekend surfing competition drew thousands of people to Huntington Beach, a popular surfing spot.

In the white cracker world when te black kids do it it's a riot. When the white cracker kids do it it' just boys letting off steam.

I saw this on the USC football board talking about the incident.

""The riots here had little-to-nothing to with surfing: those performing or appreciating. The surfing events were normally concluded by mid-day. The riots were more about what came after...a festival with music, alcohol, and who knows what else. It is pretty well known that OC locals stay away during this event.""

""I've been in Huntington Beach all my life, went to Marina also. Went down there this morning and had breakfast on Main st. Talked to my long time buddy who owns Longboards pub. He said 95% of the problem were idiots from out of town causing the trouble and all 8 arrests were non locals. He said he was pretty pissed by the slow response by the police, couldn't believe it took so long to mobilize. Usually HB police are good and aggressive, almost bigger dicks than Newport Beach police. Hopefully it's a once in 30 year thing.""

It's like riots after football or basketball events, alcohol fueled.

White liberals from california! Democrat voters! And the lefties here are trying to blame republicans

Huh. I always thought Huntington Beach was overwhelmingly white and republican.

Oh wait.

They are.

In the state legislature Huntington Beach is located in the 35th Senate District, represented by Republican Tom Harman, and in the 67th Assembly District, represented by Republican Jim Silva. Federally, Huntington Beach is located in California's 48th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +6[27] and is represented by Republican Dana Rohrabacher.
As of June 1, 2010, the city has 127,660 registered voters. 45.8% are registered Republicans, 28.5% are registered Democrats, 20.7% are decline to state, and the balance are registered with third parties.[28]
