He's not renaming it. He's reminding it what it's name is.

It was called The Department of War for 158 years until after WW2.


So he is not renaming it he would be bringing back the original name that the founder fathers called it

No, it isn't. It is to carry out the will of the nation and national foreign policy as required. Defense of the nation is just one role out of many the DoD carries out.

An example of that in our early history is the Barbary wars. The nation wasn't being defended. Foreign policy was being acted on by the military. Today, taking on say Somali pirates is the same thing. The same thing is true of Trump directing the Navy to blow that drug boat out of the water a few days ago.

I want the US to have an effective foreign policy and if force is necessary as part of that, a military that can carry it out. By your standard, Japan and Germany would have been victorious in WW 2.

Our bone spurs warrior likes the tough guy sound of it.
 
Wasteful, and useless. If you ever had any belief he ever wanted to save the government money, this and moving the Space Force Command to Alabama should end that. DoD did not need to be "reminded" of its purpose.
