Deescalation is the word nowadays, and this cop's actions was one of the driving forces. Nowadays you can spend all day watching videos with unqualified cops failing to deescalate on youtube. While it is true that cops will always have weapons and arrest folks, there is a whole slew of folks arrested that shouldn't have been and with a better trained cop would not have been.
