Freshman Jayden Harris says he was so upset by the video that he got in a fight with the student who created it.

"There was a video that was made saying, 'oh I want to remind Black people the days that they got whipped," Harris said of the racist video. "During the fight I was thinking, is this gonna to make it stop? Will this make a change?"

Hundreds of students walk out of Quincy High School after racist video circulates

QUINCY, Mass. —

Hundreds of students walked out of Quincy High School on Friday after a fight broke out between students over a video that contained racist hate speech.

Superintendent Kevin Mulvey sent a letter to parents saying the video, that was made one year ago, was recently shared by students online.

A fight over the video broke out Tuesday between two students.

"(The) altercation is the result of students’ ability to communicate impulsively and without the maturity to understand the consequences of their actions. The altercation was witnessed by many students and staff and is extremely disturbing to the entire school community," Mulvey wrote in the letter.

"I would just like for him to know what he said wasn't right," said Jaiden Harris, one of the students in the fight.

Harris said he regrets turning to violence, but that the other student's words should have consequences.

"When I first saw the video, that's not OK. People can't say the stuff he said and and get away with it," Harris said.

Students gathered outside the building demanding school leaders make what students call “real change.”

“Imagine the flood of problems like a big dam and finally broke because we're tired of being ignored,” student Mirlandy Michel said. “All the racism and the homophobia -- and this fight, it was the trigger to all this.”

School leaders held an assembly for students with staff of Walker Therapeutic, and parents were invited to attend a virtual or in-person meeting with the group Friday and Monday.
