The idea that transgender girls pose some dire threat to women’s athletics has become popular with the right wing, and bills like Utah’s have begun to proliferate in conservative states. The New York Times reported in May that 18 states had enacted bills or other statewide rules barring transgender girls from sports.

The laws accompany a raging moral panic over the position of transgender children and adults. Urged on by right-wing media figures such as Libs of Tik Tok, conservatives are censoring books and, in some cases, calling in death threats to children’s hospitals accused, falsely, of performing hysterectomies and genital surgeries on children. There are shades of QAnon here with its obsession over child abuse and pedophilia. In reality, children are the real losers of this modern-day witch hunt.

Critics have warned that attempts to discriminate against transgender girls and women also place other gender-nonconforming people at risk. The case in Utah suggests those warnings were correct. Though Spatafore says the student wasn’t notified that her gender was under investigation, it’s hard to believe she’s unaware that others believe she doesn’t look enough like a girl to compete. Whether she’s gay or straight, cisgender or not, she should be able to compete in peace. Laws like Utah’s provide a refuge for bigots. Designed to police gender, they place the hopes and dreams of so many girls and women at risk.

No doubt this is FUBB. But when you push a false narrative that a cosmetically altered, hormone injected person is on par with others of the sex they want to "transform" to, you're going to get equally absurd reactions from the complete social spectrum of "rationality", "logic", and "sanity". Just saying.

The particular girl these parents had a problem with was NOT A MAN.

They just wanted an excuse to whine because their precious little girl lost to a better female.

Everyone should have the right to parade around and identify as the gender that they wish.

What they cannot have is the right to gain an unfair advantage when it comes to competing as that identity. In sports, cut off your genitals and reduce your muscle mass. Then it can be determined if you are competing on a level playing field.

What about programs that provide money for women in business/politics, etc?

Can someone decide that they are a woman one day (albeit with a fully functional penis) in order to qualify for these programs?

Everyone should have the right to parade around and identify as the gender that they wish.

To your first sentence: Ahh, but this is more than just "parading around" and self claimed gender identification....this is about attempts to have EVERYONE adhere to this "self identification" as normal on all levels of society. Sorry, but facts and logic just won't stretch that far.

To your second sentence: Agreed, but wouldn't the whole genital and muscle mass thing require drugs? Last time I checked, its against the rules to use drugs on any level to enhance performance.

To your last two sentences: EXCELLENT POINT! It'll be real interesting to see how the lawyers handle that one

Mental issues are complex. That's what this is. A severe mental issue that many carry around since childhood. If cross dressing helps, so be it. If breast implants and female hormones will make a man feel more stable, so be it. If dressing like a woman and singing show tunes on a stage helps...what could be so bad? I'm told there are conventions where everyone dresses up in furry animal costumes. I'm sure they return to work on Monday.

All of the above are harmless. Nobody 'decides' that they feel like a different sex than their genitals would suggest. It just happens. Fearing that a child will decide to be trans simply because they witness others doing so, isn't as prevalent as some would suggest.

This is where I part ways with the ultra liberals who stand firm that everyone has the right to gain an unfair advantage in sports due to mental issues.

Typically, they're referred to as 'performance enhancing drugs', so this isn't that. Quite the opposite. The unfair advantage occurred at birth, and they attempt (unsuccessfully) to become 'more compliant' with as yet flawed guidelines that aim to level the field. After that guy broke all female college swimming records, said guidelines are now being studied.

What also needs to be studied is the discomfort felt by the female athletes in the locker room, as he was parading around with his penis out...admitting that he's still attracted to women. Right now, women have no rights.

1. People can paint themselves yellow and call themselves cab for all I care. I would, however, take issue is said person started demanding that a law should be passed so he could pick up fares and run around with them on his back in traffic. That's essentially what's going on here....so hyped up transvestite wants be treated as "normal" and exactly as the opposite sex they are imitating with regards to societal laws and rules on all levels. Sorry, but that dog won't fly ( I know, but I substitute fly for hunt to emphasize the absurdity of the position being discussed).

And like it or not, influencing a child is become more prevalent. Case in point, over the last few years you've read or heard news reports about parents who "recognize" their kindergarten age kid is a LGBTQ leaning, so they placate the kid in clothing, toys and treatment. Like satirists Bill Maher once said, their kids! If this attitude were a precursor to adult life, we'd all be cowboys and princesses!

2. Good points. But aren't they being "enhanced" to be a woman? Hmm, that's a metaphysical debate if ever there was one. But even if the "trans" person went whole hog and had his penis cut up and folded to resemble a vagina, he'd STILL be biologically a man (that would be SOME surgery in order for a man to have to squat to take a piss.) There should be no "study"....you don't send a man into a woman's bathroom, no matter how fancy a transvestite he is. A simple polling will solve that question.

Should parents be allowed to file a complaint against a child's opponent if they feel "she just doesn’t look enough like a girl" or “that female athlete doesn’t look feminine enough"?
