Where's the calls for jail time for this wife beater?

Isn't that wonderful? You have one of the good ones. Gloat on...please do.
Don't blame others of us who weren't as fortunate and suffered through true ABUSE, some near death and know the damn difference between a possible a-hole type guy like this one possibly is and a guy who would have gone straight to the throat instead of a phone in an attempt to strangle her. Some of us got away by the skin of our teeth. So, forgive us if we don't freak out over a husband grabbing a phone out of the hand of a drama queen wife.

You are not the only one. I'm glad you got away to tell about it. Imagine my surprise when what I thought was safely hidden behind closed doors was known by many.... because of public slip-ups less dramatic than this interaction between Mr. and Mrs. Baer. I can guarantee you that if he's unable to control himself and acts out in this way in public, what happens behind the front door of their home is far, far worse. You say you've been there, done that. I'm glad. Hope your horrible experience will lead you to compassion and empathy for those still there.

what happens behind the front door of their home....is their goddamn business!!!!

Maybe people are talking past each other this far into the conversation but I still can’t see how someone watches that video and says Baer should go to jail.

Other than the OP has anyone said that so far? IMO mandatory counseling for both of them seems to be a better solution. Maybe some community service working with DV survivors as well.

christiefan said he should serve a couple/few days in jail

Why Marriage Counseling Doesn't Work

Excerpt:

Most couples go for marriage counseling when it's way too late to save their marriages, and most marriage counselors are the kiss of death for marriages. By the time couples get to a counselor it's usually to receive last rites for the marriage.

There's a good reason most marriage counseling doesn't work, because "couples therapy may be the hardest form of therapy and most therapists aren't good at it," according to an article by William Doherty in the professional journal Psychotherapy Networker. "Surveys indicate that about eighty percent of therapists in private practice do couples therapy. Where they got their training is a mystery because most therapists practicing today never took a course in couples therapy and never did their internships under supervision from someone who'd mastered the art. From a consumer's point of view going in for couples therapy is like having your broken leg set by a doctor who skipped orthopedics in medical school," said Doherty. According to the New York Times two years after ending marital counseling twenty-five percent of couples are worse off than they were when they started, and after four years thirty-eight percent are divorced.

"Forcefully" wouldn't be necessary;)

So, let's see. Phantasmal takes your dog. You ask for it back. She says "No". Then what? (You whip out the .44 Magnum and say "Make My Day mother fucker")
How do you get your dog back by not using physical force to reclaim it?

Why is 'counseling' needed for the person that reclaimed their stolen property?

Confucius say:

Wait until her back is turned and call your dog.
If it comes running, it was always your dog.
If it doesn't, you're screwed and it never was.

Otherwise, the .44 Magnum should be convincing.

Where's the calls for jail time for this wife beater?

Probably the same place as your calls for jail time for Smollett.

That is interesting, but I am not certain that the situations are comparable. One was a 20-second video from a 20-minute verbal confrontation between two married people. The other was a self-serving fraud.

Do you teach your daughters to steal?
Do you tell them it's OK because unlike males, they have vaginas and the Rules don't apply to them.
Is it OK for the Wife to take a Man's phone, but if the situation was reversed, and the Man took the Wife's phone, it would be OK for the Wife to do anything to get her phone back?

Were you sober when you wrote all these comments?

I already said both parties behaved badly. She shouldn't have taken his phone. He shouldn't have pushed her to the ground, accidentally or not, while trying to retrieve it. What is this, elementary school?

You need to hold adults to a higher standard of behaviour.* Taking someone's phone doesn't automatically trigger the "might makes right" response. Nor does it rise to the level of "theft." This is a married couple, not two strangers.

Btw I scanned some comments and articles about this incident and nowhere did I see anyone calling for him to be jailed. Granted I couldn't search out at every single response. Why are you so triggered by what I wrote?

*Shout out to Leggie.

No one said his behavior was normal dude. That isn’t behavior that gets you sent to jail. Not a difficult concept to understand and it was nothing to do with being a teabagger.

I didn't see any calls for jail time, although I couldn't read every single article about the incident.

Oh. NOT Theft. What should he have done, Brainiac ... call the Police? ("My wife took my phone, can you please come out here and get it back for me")

You're so outraged by the responses here that it makes me think you actually went through a similar situation.
