Where Does American Democracy Go From Here?

Charles Homans: Steven, when you and Daniel Ziblatt published “How Democracies Die” in 2018, you considered the possible futures ahead of us as a country after Donald Trump’s presidency.

Steven Levitsky: I think it was broadly right. Trump didn’t consolidate an autocracy. But things got a lot worse more quickly than we expected. Even though our book was considered a little on the alarmist side when it was published, I think we were insufficiently alarmed.

We did not anticipate the rapid and thoroughgoing Trumpization of the Republican Party. We did not consider the Republican Party to be an antidemocratic force when we wrote the book in 2017.

AWAY FROM THE LEFTIDIOT FAILURES LIKE YOU AND YOURS, AND BACK TO A GROWING, PROSPERING ,STRONG AMERICA , LIKE BEFORE YOU AND YOURS.

It appears so. If we want to defeat them, we have to adopt their tactics.

well thats one option.
another option is insist that laws insuring legitimate voting are followed to the letter.
had laws been observed in 2020 there would have been someone else sworn in in Jan 2021.

It is depressing how many seemed to accept the democrat coup. Time will tell if the donkeys have killed the election system for good and all.

Now that was an absurd post. The Dems work within the same system we have had for 250 years. it is Trump and the Repubs who are throwing it over for a dictatorship. I am glad Trump is old and lazy. It could have been a lot worse. The next Repub in his image will be a more dangerous threat to America as we know it
Trump and his minions were given everything they asked for and THEY proved the election was fair and honest.

You're damn right I abhor democracy. It is an unstable form of government that leads to oligarchy or dictatorship. There is no constitution, no representatives, nothing to prevent a mob faction from eventually taking over.
I support the Constitution of the United States. I support a republic as a form of government and no other. Trump was a damn fine President, and the last President of the United States, which is no more, thanks to the Democrats destroying it via a silent coup.

The United States was never a democracy. The 'thing' you call the federal government is nothing more than an oligarchy now. The States are now independent States, each deciding their own futures.

Nope

They just feel free to express their racism

They have always been there

Back to the sewer for them

Make racism hated again

Moving to a more perfect union

'They' are you. Your idea of 'a perfect union' is perfect slavery and subservience to The Oligarchy.

He has certainly committed impeachable offenses. He gave weapons to the enemy in time of war. That's an impeachable offense. It is treason. Will the Democrat run oligarchy impeach their own? I think not.

1. Impeach Joe Biden
2. Charge him with treason
3. Try him and convict him
4. Exact the penalty for treason prescribed in the Constitution

Why do you prefer lies to facts
You are describing yourself again.
The American court system proves the Republican Party has cheated its ass off in elections
No. The election of 2020 faulted because of election fraud by DEMOCRATS. No court needed. You can't wish away the evidence. The court of public opinion is the only court that matters now.
Mountains of cases and punishment on the Republican Party for decades
You can't wish the evidence away or blame on the Republicans, dude.
There is no such record for the Democratic Party
Lie.
You are operating on fucking lies idiot
You are describing yourself again.
