This test is similar to some hiring practices that require test taking for a position. I've seen it for both the CIA and the airlines.
Here's the strategy; a group wants to hire good people so they take their best people and run them through a battery of tests noting similarities and dissimilarities from the average applicant. Then they give all applicants a test geared to do as you said: identify certain people AKA pigeonhole. They hire the people who test most like their best employees.
People are not static; they have moods and they change/grow. Your shift from Establishment Liberal to Democratic Mainstay (a move toward the center) is a slight matter of degree.**
Let's say an employer was looking for more "Democratic Mainstay" personalities; you'd be identified for further testing. Depending upon how many applicants they had or your resume/other data, you might even be selected with an "Establishment Liberal" score which would be confirmed or denied with additional testing. A short test like this is a great way to winnow out undesirables and identify potential employees.
There's no misleading because there's no wrong answer. You're looking at it like a math problem where there's only one correct answer. This, like the personality test, is to reveal tendencies. Stop reading too much into it. Go with your gut on tests like this.

Pilots have a lot of decisions to make. The airline encourages shortcuts (save money) but if a pilot does something and gets caught, like Mission Impossible, the comany will disavow knowledge of their actions. In short, the airline would let the pilot hang.
With that in mind, whenever I was trying to make a decision, it was smart to consider if something went wrong and I'd have to justify my actions to both the FAA and my airline. That consideration immediately shoots down several options, sometimes leaving only one choice; land the airplane at the nearest airport. LOL
How does this apply to you? If a JPP "Lefty" is murders and LEO's track the victims activities noting your violent accusations and threats, then you become a suspect.
Your anonymous username won't save you in a murder investigation much less one involving terrorism, Matt. Sure, if they find out you're locked up in a "retirement home", you won't be the murder suspect per se but your posts, PMs, email, etc would be tracked to see if you are linked to other terrorists and maybe the murderer.

I've never been a big test fan. Instinct, judgement, and experience are usually sufficient for me to assess other human beings.
I don't think I have gotten more moderate in the last two months, the test does not give one the option of saying I disagree with both options provided
