Great. That wasn’t an answer to the question. Are whistleblowers exempt from stealing classified documents?
I doubt either of us has actually read the WBP Act lol, but I would venture to guess it doesn’t protect from stealing.
But if my facts are right the IG and congress were already in possession of the information [or most of it?] and likely confiscated Cain’s devices and/or hard drives. Most probably, the WBP Act protects whistle blowers from prosecution; and likely not protect them from 16 federal agents showing up at your door to spend four hours searching your home.
The more interesting question is the ‘why’ and the ‘who was behind it’?
It wasn’t Mullet unless one wants to go Full Deep State and suggest Mullet is able to pulls some serious strings from outside the DOJ chain of command. That’s not something I would dismiss out of hand, but more likely, acting AG Whitaker was behind the raid. A raid like that would have to come from the Seventh Floor—at minimum, Whitaker knew about it.
If that’s the case then the ‘why’ is likely that Trump is going to make a move against some people—like he’s been threatening to lately. In fact, the federal magistrate that approved the raid is awaiting an appointment from Trump to full federal judge.
But the media silence still puzzles me. As mentioned in the OP, this isn’t exactly something the Fake Newsers would run with—more likely they’d run FROM it, since it casts the wrong characters in a bad light. But my investigative journalist sources aren’t talking about it either. The passing of HW might have sucked all the air out of the room over the weekend so that might explain it.
The other alternative is that it is fake news. And if it is, I’ll own it.
The problem with that is it would be fake news made up from whole cloth. Fake News is almost always fact-twisting, mischaracterizing statements, using anonymous sources to prop-up a narrative. The Fake News media is guilty of all of that in spades. Just last week NPR got caught mischaracterizing Junior Trump and had to do a retraction.
But this story doesn’t rely on anonymous sources; the characters are real people; Dennis Cain is real; his lawyer is real; the federal magistrate, Gallagher is real. The Daily Caller may be biased to the right but I can’t imagine them spinning a virtual Fairytale out of thin air using real people as subjects.
Unless they are out to get sued and/or lose massive amounts of subscribers. I will drop them like a hot potatoe if they are guilty of making up an absolute yarn.
So, we’ll see how it goes.
