But in a moment of anger, I too have made a mistake and said something like that. If it could happen to someone like me, it could happen to a lot of people. You're a good brother and intelligent brother .. I wouldn't think of accusing you to be racist regardless of your slip of the tongue, particularly if it came as you were being robbed .. but I'm sure you're aware, black people didn't rob you, that asshole did. Your use of such terms was your failing my brother and with just what I know of you, you are better than that .. and that my brother is what you should accept .. not that everyone or even anyone else does it .. but that you're better than that. It's the closest you will ever come to individually affecting the course of human history. Just make a better you.

My friend .. I went to Highland Park High School near Detroit where if you couldn't play the dozens with the best of them .. your ass would be eating lunch outside on the sidewalk .. even in the winter.

The girls were especially viscous and the last thing you'd want to have rolling around in your mind was you and your mama being the butt of jokes from a table full of high school girls.

It's a real castrating experience. :eek:

Let me put it this way .. I ate lunch in the lunch room.

My brother .. dem's fighting words.

There is no place else on earth I would have wanted to grow up in besides Detroit, Michigan.

Motown, Coleman Young, cultural education and understanding, Belle Isle on summer nights, Canada, music, music, music everywhere around me, Hastings Street, basketball, Sensei Uezu and Adams, Kensington Park .. no no my friend, I loved Detroit.

Unfortunately, Detroit was tied solely to the auto industry. Many guys who got out of high school with me went stright to the plants where they made good salaries, good vacations .. and they didn't care if you were black .. thanks to UNIONS.

As the auto industry declined, so did the city .. but I have enough good memories to fill two peoples lives.
