When Democrats are in power.....

Thats why you're there, to suck up the good life at the expense of the suffering of others...
you don't have to hide it down there...they don't vote for your political party from south of the river............how typically Democrat that is.....good for you....

none of the mexican people I employ suffer in any way. I shop at the mercado like all the other citizens of my city.

liberals don't want there to BE a gap... it seems to me that if the conservatives run all the workers back across the rio grande, they should step up and start washing dishes and picking vegetables... that would seem fair.

Or we could make people earn their unemployment/welfare checks?

Conflating welfare with UI is so deceitful or ignorant, I don't know which.

UI is meant to help a person to survive while they attempt to find another job.

Their efforts are supposed to be either solely directed at obtaining gainful employment, or partially directed at that, and partially directed at retraining.

This is a very new right wing meme, or at least it's new as far as I know. Pretending that UI is welfare is just sickening, but I encourage you all to continue on with that. Because newsflash dummies - UI is basically a middle class program. So keep alienating all but the rich, that's good for us.

Actually, maineman, what most conservatives want is for the border to be secure before we create this path so that it isn't a perpetual problem, and to open more legal migration and immigration (yes both, some people want to come work then go home afterward, why should there be a barrier to that?). Just "deporting" them would be a bit like turning on a sump pump to "fix" a leaking pipe in the basement. The basement would still be perpetually filled with water, just not "too full"...

We need to fix a bit more than just handing over a "Path to citizenship" to everybody who came illegally too. All that does is drive incentive for more illegal immigration. We need to secure the open borders then open the front door and have them check in as they come rather than try to back fill that gap in the process, once we can do that, that is when the "path to citizenship" for those who came illegally should open.

When our system is so broken that they send a Visa to a 9/11 bomber after 9/11 to the school he was attending to "learn to fly" that means we have a broken system that is so broken that this give it away policy seems insane.

http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/03/12/inv.flight.school.visas/index.html

Fix the system first, then we'll start working on the effects of our broken system.

Securing the border is about effective as the drug war. One of the real problems is lapsed visas or work permits. Secure borders is just another lame excuse to do nothing.

Not if we create more INS officers that can monitor visas and work permits. But that will cost money.

Not to get off on a tangent, but that was my pet peeve about Homeland Security. We have the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA....we didn't need another bureaucracy that basically does the same thing. If they were understaffed or underfunded...fine
..give them the tools they need to do their jobs.

Children, elderly and the disabled?

No....the able bodied. I happen to agree with this. It's what FDR envisioned when he created the WPA and the CCC. We have an infrastructure that's crumbling beneath our feet that could be upgraded.

Our roads are dangerous in many parts of the country...our bridges are a catastrophe waiting to happen, dams, levees, water and sewage....hell, 2/3 of our electricity generated is lost in heat loss and transmission to our homes.

All these things could be fixed by putting our welfare population to work. It would also have the benefit of....

A. Giving them a sense of productivity and self worth.

B. Give them something to put in a resume and have employer recommendations.

C. If they do a good job, perhaps there would be room for them somewhere for permanent work within the system or the private sector.

Sorry, I am for it. Child care us an issue and would have to be part of the deal.

But in your stupidity, you have overlooked that I wasn't trying to spell "manual" and this attempt by you, to try and recover some dignity, is really pathetic and amusing.

Once again, the same tiny mind that can't differentiate between "to", "too" and "two" thinks he's up to lecturing others on how to spell...ROTFLMAO!

For somebody who can't spell, it should not come as a surprise to you that folks would naturally assume your inability to both spell and properly capitalize.

And then there's this:

IF he was actually referring to a person named "Manuel", the he should have capitalized "Labor", as it obviously was "Manuel's" last name.

However...

If he instead meant "manual" labor, then he misspelled "manual" instead.

So much grade school stupidity from a supposed "adult".

I said nothing of the sort. I already AM living here. why would mexico kick out legal immigrants who have legally applied for - and received -residency status, who pay their taxes and who bring income into the country? Like I said, you should quit while you're behind.

And just remember... I do not share your myopic and ethnocentric view of the importance of the US economy, and I have invested accordingly. If you all go down the tubes, I won't.

When they search for your guns and find them, you'll either be jailed or deported.

Unfortunately, that will never happen.

We spoke a few months ago about the benefit of infrastructure improvements with the ability to employ hundreds of thousands of Americans around the country. The President even proposed it in the SOTU.

Unfortunately, there are some within our government who would rather see power grids fail, bridges fall and highways turn to dust than support such.

I know. And it's a damned shame
