If you want to visit (and not live in) the United States you must first obtain a visitor visa. Travelers from certain countries may be exempt.

If you want to travel to the United States for reasons other than business or pleasure, such as study or work, you must apply for a visa in the appropriate category.

Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, either a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay, or an immigrant visa for permanent residence. The visa allows a foreign citizen, to travel to the United States port-of entry and request permission of the U.S. immigration inspector to enter the U.S.

There are more than 20 nonimmigrant visa types for people traveling to the United States temporarily. There are many more types of immigrant visas for those coming to live permanently in the United States.

OBIM provides biometric identification services to federal, state and local government decision makers to help them accurately identify the people they encounter and determine whether those people pose a risk to the United States. OBIM currently applies to all international visitors (with limited exemptions) entering the United States, but not to U.S. citizens.

As of October 26, 2006, any passport issued on or after this date by a Visa Waiver Program (VWP) country must be an e-Passport for VWP travelers to be eligible to enter the United States without a visa.

Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) - A fully automated, electronic system for screening passengers before they begin travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. ESTA applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel to the United States, and Visa Waiver Program travelers are encouraged to apply for authorization as soon as they begin to plan a trip to the U.S.

At a port of entry, CBP enforces the import and export laws and regulations of the U.S. federal government and conducts immigration policy and programs. Whether you are a visitor to the United States or U.S. citizen, each individual arriving into the United States must complete one or more of U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) entry forms.

If you want to extend your stay in the United States, you must file a request with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on the Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status before your authorized stay expires. If you remain in the United States longer than authorized, you may be barred from returning and/or you may be deported from the United States.

If you want to change the purpose of your visit while in the United States, you (or in some cases your employer) must file a request with USCIS on the appropriate form before your authorized stay expires.

On Aug. 6, 2001, President George W. Bush received a classified review of the threats posed by Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network, Al Qaeda.

That morning’s “presidential daily brief” — the top-secret document prepared by America’s intelligence agencies — featured the now-infamous heading: “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.”

A few weeks later, on 9/11, Al Qaeda accomplished that goal.

In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush officials attempted to deflect criticism that they had ignored C.I.A. warnings by saying they had not been told when and where the attack would occur.

Throughout that summer, there were events that might have exposed the plans, had the government been on high alert.

Indeed, even as the Aug. 6 brief was being prepared, Mohamed al-Kahtani, a Saudi believed to have been assigned a role in the 9/11 attacks, was stopped at an airport in Orlando, Fla., by a suspicious customs agent and sent back overseas on Aug. 4.

Two weeks later, another co-conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, was arrested on immigration charges in Minnesota after arousing suspicions at a flight school.

But the dots were not connected, and Washington did not react.

If Bush had really been so concerned about our security, he would have ordered the State Department and related agencies to check up on the activities of recent Muslim visitors from suspect Middle Eastern nations.

The warnings actually had started coming as early as May 1st, so Bush had time to react.

National Review obtained the visa applications for 15 of the 19 hijackers — and evidence that all of them should have been denied entry to the country.

Almost all of the hijackers' visas were issued in Saudi Arabia, at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh or the U.S. Consulate in Jedda.

Terrorist ties aside, the applications themselves should have raised red flags, say experts.

The forms are incomplete and often incomprehensible — yet that didn't stop any of the 15 terrorists for whom the visa applications were obtained from coming to the United States.

Brothers Wail and Waleed al Shehri applied together. Under "occupation" Wail wrote "teater;" brother Waleed claimed "student." The name and address of alleged employer and school was listed as "South City," and the questionable U.S. destination named as "Wasantwn."

Visas approved.

Abdulaziz Alomari claimed to be a student but didn't name a school; claimed to be married but didn't name a spouse; under nationality and gender, he didn't list anything.

Visa approved.

Bush was President. He should have directed the State Department to review any visas granted based on suspicious or incomplete information from Muslim countries.

He didn't.

Even worse, 7 of the 9/11 hijackers had overstayed their visas.

Given the warnings Bush had received, and given the countries they came from, they should have been rounded up immediately.

Bush did nothing.

After 9/11 George W. Bush let people into the country like never before, some of whom perpetrated terrible attacks.

Have you ever heard of the Boston Marathon bombers?

George W. Bush let them into the country in 2002, the year after 9/11.

Republicans to Cut Obama’s U.S. Border Funding Request

Obama’s $3.7 billion request for emergency spending to deal with the border crisis covers the current fiscal year that ends Sept. 30 and the next one that starts Oct. 1.

Representative Tom Cole, an Oklahoma Republican, said in an interview yesterday that the funding total “is going to be pretty restrained.”

House Republicans slash funds for border security, immigration enforcement

House Republicans voted to slash spending for border security and immigration enforcement for the remainder of this fiscal year by an estimated $600 million; the House budget allocates $350 million less for border security fencing, infrastructure, and technology than Congress approved last year, and $124 million below what DHS requested; the bill also cuts an estimated $159 million over last year for Customs and Border Protection modernization and construction programs, and is $40 million less than the agency sought to get the job done

The U.S. House of Representatives voted mostly along party lines to slash spending by an estimated $600 million for border security and immigration enforcement for the remainder of this fiscal year, according to ABC News. The budget allocates $350 million less for border security fencing, infrastructure, and technology than Congress approved last year, and $124 million below what DHS requested.

Stalemate has put at risk customs operations at airports, seaports and land borders nationwide.

The Department of Homeland Security has been caught in the middle of a battle between the conservative Congress and President Obama.

Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., taking to the Senate floor, reprimanded Republicans for putting the nation's security and trade at risk.

The Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are vital to protecting U.S. borders -- both from economic and violent threats, he said.

It’s important to note that visa applicants are not asked about their religious beliefs.

In fact, U.S. immigration law does not allow the State Department to reject an applicant based on religion.

The republican rhetoric is pretty far from the reality they create, isn't it.

Seems that way, doesn't it?

To read the crap they post, you'd think that US immigration policy started willfully allowing hordes of evil terrorists into the country on January 21, 2007.

George W. Bush didn't cause 9/11, but if he had been attentive, he might have been able to prevent it. He certainly did nothing to improve our security after it.

My concept is pretty simple:
1. Do you even HAVE a visa?
2. Are you a military age male?
3. Are you on anyone else's watch list?
4. And last but not least, why aren't you in the huge, massively defended, well provisioned refugee camp paid for by the U.S. taxpayers that we set up for you in your own country?
If sources are correct, we could possibly eliminate up to 50% of them just with #2.

Are you claiming that only refugees are a security risk?

The Boston bombers emigrated in 2002 to the United States and were granted asylum under the Bush administration.

Neither of the San Bernardino shooters were refugees.

The Chattanooga shooter wasn't a refugee.

Did anyone say they didn't?

What did Bush do after he was warned during his term- after Clinton was long gone?

Did he hunt them down?

No.

Did he tighten security?

No.

And after 9/11, during his administration, the Boston Bombers were granted asylum.

Poor BLABO.

We've seen numerous pictures of the San Bernardino killers at the airport along with scathing articles about Obama letting in killers without proper vetting. Funny nobody kept showing the 9/11 killers picture or made comments about bush's stance on immigration.
