The advice isn't to not actually "hate" people, it's to stop 'hatin'' in a knee-jerk irrational "Yer a <insert nonsense here>" kind of way on somebody who is normally an ally.

I think you need to go back and go through your friends post to see how he treats his "allies". Maybe, the one where him and I discussed the oil industry. He got pretty "ugly" that time.
