what we are teaching kids about the police

Desh, whats the difference between YOU posting negative articles about police misconduct and ME posting negative articles about police misconduct?

I dont hate cops BTW.

The only difference in today's police and the police of my youth is the perception.

Now even white people know the truth about them .. a truth we've been telling them for a hundred years.
 
I teach my kids that police are generally good and that it is there job to protect them, but that police are people and some people are bad.

I did my share of "off the pigs", as a white guy during Vietnam. Course "the pigs" didn't go after protestors because of race, equal opportunity head bashing.

I teach mine to avoid them when possible .. give them no reason to shoot you ... because they will.

But if you need them, call them .. because we pay them.

A bit of an awakening was happening for many whites during those days .. and Kent State and Jackson State demonstrated that evil for all the world to see.

ya. the cool thing was Black Panthers,(etc.) and other black power groups were on the same page as the white guys.
My first real interactions with black consciousness, kinna scary for a kid of 15-17, but i learned from it. "Power to the people", wasn't just a bullshit phrase like it (unfortunately ) is now.

Unfortunately that's true for most .. but I'm a socialist .. which still means "Power to the people."

I thought I was only supposed to let them out on Thursday, fuck I am going to be in trouble with the rest of my 1% friends if they find out about this screw up.
 
Jarod, ask the police if it's their job to protect you. You'll find out that, sadly, their job is often to wait for someone to be victimized before they can act. Ask a battered wife or an abused partner if they can call the police for protection.

Case in point: The family in Connecticut that were murdered while the cops waited for the perps to LEAVE THE SCENE... They let the perps rape the women and children and then set fire to the victims home.

Hooray for the heros in blue!

That is some of the funniest drivel I have seen in a long time.

"Hey kids, the cops gonna shoot yo ass, but if ya needs em. Just give em a call"

So first you tell them they can't trust the police, then you tell them they can. You dear sir are a dumb fuck.
 
It's a unique situation for me. I have an intense distrust of police and their institution as a whole, and generally feel them to be jack booted assholes. But I also do a lot of work for police (building their cars and boats and such), and I know damn near every one of them in the cities we work with. And a lot of them are cool to me, because I know them. It's probably why I never get pulled over.
