What Song Are You Listening To, Right Now?

This is a song off of Gram Parsons' debut solo album called GP.

I love this song. I don't know why. Owl, you said you're not a big fan of country but you like the old story-telling style.

When I read that, I thought of this song. It's so well sung that you don't need the lyrics. All the lyrics are easy to hear and understand.

One of the jewels of this song is that it also marks the debut of Emmy Lou Harris, who is one of the back-up singers on this number.

It tells the story of a farmer who is trying his best to please his woman as she is drawn away from country life to the excitement of the big city.

It's called "Streets of Baltimore."

That's great -- thanks, Poli!

A little Dolly?

My mom loved country music. I'll dedicate this one to her. She always misheard the lyrics and thought that the farmer was singing "four hundred children and a crop in the field" and said: "I don't blame her for leaving!"

I had an old pickup truck one time that I named Lucille after that song.

It picked a fine time to leave me stranded by the side of the interstate!

Gram was VERY talented. Thanks for the video.

I'm listening to The Very Best of Little Richard CD right now. It's on the Universal Records label, courtesy of Specialty Records, who originally released the songs. This is a fantastic collection, featuring TWENTY FIVE great songs on ONE CD! HIGHLY recommended.

My mom's favorite. We saw Loretta at the Opry in the Ozarks when I was a teenager (much to my disgust at the time since I was into Neil Young, CSNY, Tull, etc.). We saw her again the next day, walking along the sidewalk with her twins. Mom about fainted.
