What Phil Robertson DID do

damo he said they were happy and never sang sad songs or complained about how they were treated

There. Just as in my hypothetical. None of that means that he thinks there never was racism and the KKK didn't exist. He said the people he worked with were treated the same as he was and that he never experienced them "singing the blues".

“I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field…. They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!… Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

so is he claiming black people are better off now ?

are things JUST the same for black people now as then?

they are as equally happy now?

less happy

more happy?

what was he saying?

well actually its not speculation to listen to black people.

Have you listened to what black people think of his remarks?

some of them lived at the time hes talking about

what do you think the black people who lived it would say?

Probably that they didn't discuss it with him. He spoke of personal experiences, and a belief that people would be better off without government help. If I say I never saw anybody work a sail boat does that mean I think they don't exist? What if I say I never saw anybody treat their dog badly does that mean I don't believe that animal cruelty is real?

he is wrong

how does lying about the people he knew at the time make him correct?

he said EVERY black person he knew was happy and signing happy songs while they worked.

do you believe him?
