You just described Trump supporters. Except the gullible right falls for it. Here’s the difference. Trump supporters are white people who have zero actual grievances. They just make them up. ‘Woke’ in business is about profit. You have to try in order to be bothered by it. At a certain point anti-woke is just woke with a different name. Frankly I think the whole thing is stupid. I don’t analyze or worry about artistic choices. I either like the art or I don’t. Anti woke is just as pretentious as woke.
It’s the brain melted right who falls for that definition
https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionar...=/wəʊk/-,/wəʊk/,that does not change anything.
woke adjective
/wəʊk/
/wəʊk/
(informal, often disapproving)
aware of social and political issues, especially racism
Then what is the definition as far as you're concerned?
Disappeared in your mind maybe
The real definition
I still think it would be more beneficial for black actors to have new roles and new characters created for them.
What would be so difficult about using some real historical event as the backdrop to a fictional story in which a black person or group of black people were the protagonists? And it wouldn't have to be the tired old "fighting against prejudice and racism" theme they always default to.
Such stories could be about the valiant and heroic efforts of a group of black, common, ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances, working or struggling in support of a common cause, etc.
Authors like Ken Follet and Julian Fellowes are masters of the historical fiction genre.
If a movie like that was well done, with top notch production values, I'd go see it myself.
And as for animated characters, if Disney cannot create something as simple as an animated black character, then they've apparently outlived their mission.
Even if this Little Mermaid stuff is well intentioned as opposed to simple appeasement, it's still misguided IMO.
And I'm sticking to it.![]()
The real definition
So who gets to decide that?
Only the people who coined the term for their own agenda?
Or do the people who don't subscribe to that agenda also get to offer their view of what it means to them?
There is no "real" definition of a conjured up term like that.
It means what one perceives it to mean.
And BTW, the supposed "racism" that being "woke" claims to be aware of, is to a large degree exaggerated at best, and to a lesser degree, just made up.
If I am aware of black people's racism towards non-black people, can I say that I'm woke too?
Well it's your prerogative to see it any way you choose to.
AFAIC, the far left proggy loons who support race pandering are every bit as far off their rockers and wrong-headed as the Trumper, MAGA cultist idiots.
Opposite sides of the same stupid, fucked up, worthless coin.
The people who are brushing this Little Mermaid casting choice off as much ado about nothing or a tempest in a teapot, are engaging in the same kind of rationalizing as Trump supporters engage in when defending his antics.
Granted, some of Trump's transgressions rose to an astronomically higher level of seriousness than this issue does, but the denial reaction to him in general by his supporters is very similar to the denial by the woke nitwits to whom there is no limit to what constitutes no big deal.
Transvestites dressed like whores reading transvestite books to little children is OK with you people? Really???
And we're supposed to view your judgement on this nonsense credibility? Really???
Let me say again, lest I be accused of being obsessed with it, this Little Mermaid crap is little more than an annoyance to me, but as long as you guys want to keep the argument going, I'll keep responding.
Actually enjoying it.

Your definition of pandering and mine are very, very different.
'Transvestited dressed like whores? Well, you just revealed a ton about your character pal. Enough said on that topic. How did you suddenly project your ridiculous angst on me? Your strawman is the weakest argument I've seen you make. It's laughable. If you weren't obsessed with it, you wouldn't make such an incredibly phony and ignorant argument. You are indeed obsessed.
I hope you answer this honestly.
The people and companies who own this content have typically ALWAYS tried to shake up old characters and content to make it appeal to NEW and BROADER audiences. See Marvel comics history as just one example.
You come in and say 'Ya but i as individual do not want them to do it and i, as individual think the PoC and women getting these roles would be better served to only take new material and not remakes'.
In all honesty WTF do you think you are that the content owners and actors and growing audiences should GAF what you want or think?
I for one do not like strawberry ice cream. Think vanilla and chocolate are better and strawberry should not be made.
Should i cry that others like like Strawberry, that ice cream makers want to sell it? That people who are not me want to consume it?
What level of entitled snowflake Karen feels the need to cry about what content owners do with their content when they sell it to people who are not you?
Why stick your nose in it, to just whine and whine?
You are a joke, little Karen.
All I've done here is express a POV while you just become more and more unglued with every emotional hissy-fit post you make.
I don't expect any company or corporation or industry to give a shit about I or you or any other one individual thinks.
And you're exaggerating about all that "have ALWAYS tried to shake up old characters and content to make it appeal to NEW and BROADER audience" crap. Sure, they've done it before, but not at the same level and more importantly, not for the purpose of bowing to racial pressure from one ethnic group who has a long and getting longer history of playing the race/victim card to get what they want.
In order for you to push your bullshit denial theory, you have to completely ignore the constant litany of whining and complaining by blacks about not being OVER REPRESENTED in the film industry that transpired prior to this casting decision. And yes, that is what they want... not to be represented, but to be OVER REPRESENTED. They will not be happy until every movie and TV show is REQUIRED to not only have black characters, but for all the LEAD parts to be played by black actors.
That's what the black agenda's goal is.
You can meekly cower and remain silent, but I won't.
You can throw bitchy hissy-fits at anyone who challenges you, and I'll just write you off as the woke sheep you are.
