Or better yet, which charges stick.

Since it’s tangentially related to Trump, they will go for the maximum charges but there’s the risk of over-charging which allows the perp to skate.

Which goes back to the insurrection thing. It’s why they are hyping it. Trying to overthrow the government is a tad more serious than destruction of federal property [hey DOJ, THAT went on all summer, where we’re you then?] so you’re right, it will be interesting to see which charges *stick*.

Most cases, IMO, will be resolved over the next six months with plea deals. It's the big cases that will go to trial simply because the charges are so big.

It's one thing to trade down from 10 to 5 years, out in 2 but what does taking 10 years off a sentence do for a person doing life for murder? Take the death penalty off the table? I doubt that's going to change many minds. Those guys will go to trial and hope to win with time served or less.

If they start handing out stiff sentences for attacking police it will be interesting to see if they stick to that going forward.

I’d say probably not. It will be another ‘Trump thing’.

The real victims here are the national guard whom they didn't trust to be armed and relegated them to a parking garage now demanding they stay at least another 30 days away from their families because of a desire to paint the other side as seditionists.
