As of early 2026, Iran has heavily militarized the Strait of Hormuz, deploying advanced defense systems, including Russian-supplied, shoulder-fired Verba (9K333) man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) and potentially other Russian or Chinese-supplied missiles, to guard against US and regional threats. These systems are part of a broader, 16-location network covering the Strait.
