No longer will I be dealing with being attacked, punched, bitten, kicked, slapped and suppressing the desire to retaliate those actions imposed upon me.

Am excited about my new job. I'll be kind of like a grandparent. If the person acts up, send them back to their living area. If they won't leave, call the living area and they'll send someone to escort the person back.

My days of a grunt are over.

Gee and here you talked about how much you loved your old job and we're glad you were doing it.

What a phony

what did you used to do that you had to face so much violence?

I was a direct care aide at an institution for adults who have dual diagnoses of developmental disabilities and mental illness. Very aggressive and violent people....but at the same time....They can be the most loving and innocent people you ever want to meet.

I now took a job as an Activity Aide. I will be involved more on the vocational/recreational side of things. Which means I am mostly out of the line of fire and the inevitable moral conundrums one finds themselves in.

There is a fine line that every aide walks. That thin line is the one between keeping your people(and yourself) safe and an ever widening definition of abuse.

When I started in 1986, we were still tying people down to their beds. Now? You can't even passively protect yourself without an investigation.

Don't get me wrong, I support these changes. That folk that live here are my number one priority. But the job keeps getting more and more difficult and demanding.

You can add them to your ignore list on normal interface, but whenever you view the poster on tapatalk, it has this weird behavior where it still displays the posters post in a quote box.
