Parents always have had control...IF they chose to get off their collective butts and utilize the system that gives them the power over public servants.

Teachers getting fired for incompetency is not the issue....the right wingnut boogey man of CRT is the issue, and trying to paint the vast majority of educators as CRT propagandist is the base lie of right wing agenda.

this is, of course, true and the heart of the matter.

I would prefer that the state get out of the education business altogether. It is much easier to be involved in your jurisdiction.

Residents of the State are the State government. Period. The idiocy of thinking that just replacing a gov't oversight will eliminate it is akin to Reagan's absurd "get the gov't off the people's backs" absurdity. Corporate rule vs. elected gov't rule. Which do you prefer?

take my state Virginia, the northern part whichi to a large extent work for the government one way or another may, as a community be OK with some educational practices that the southern part of the state is not. We should not have a statewide anything pertaining to education. Thats local business.

Taking it statewide was a practice intended to support a monopoly by making it near impossible to impact things.

Time to fix this.

What precisely is NOT being served by the current system in Virginia, in your opinion.
 
Education should be national. That way when you go from state to state, your education would be equivalent to where you moved. When you hire you can be more certain the qualifications are fair and honest.
AND, parents should not decide curriculum or anything else in schools. Go to a board meeting and listen to the crazy parents. You would be appalled. They embarrass themselves and are not wise enough to know that.

Sorry, but personal experience or a couple of excerpts on TV news affiliates are NOT indicative of EVERY school districts PTA and such in the country. What you allude to in your last 3 sentences smacks of elitism...assuming all parents are idiots and all teachers & administrators who pass the grade are the geniuses.
