Doesn't matter whether we "gave" it to them or not.

I don't "need anything". Your question was already answered if you'd only read the comment that you responded to.So you got nothing, I understand.
How about I tell you that we sold it for $1??
Don't believe me?

"On September 7, 1977, US President Jimmy Carter signed the Torrijos-Carter Treaty setting in motion the process of transferring control of the canal to Panama for a nominal fee of $1."Did the U.S. sell the Panama Canal for $1?
After construction, the canal and the Canal Zone surrounding it were administered by the United States. On September 7, 1977, US President Jimmy Carter signedwww.studycountry.com
So we did not simply cease renting it. We sold it.
They gave the US $1 and we turned over control of the Panama Canal. Your attempt to say different is hilarious.
If money was exchanged for property, it was bought/sold. The fact that it was bought for a nominal fee is irrelevant.
The 1979 treaty (and the 1999 treaty that followed) allows the United States to use it's military to maintain the neutrality of the Canal, including removing Panama from control of the Canal if necessary.Agreed.
Obviously you can't. Your premise doesn't even make any sense. The canal was completed in 1907, therefore, the supposed hundred year lease would have run out in 2007. Yet Jimmy Carter signed the canal over to Panama in 1977.
No lease, Pretender. My bad it was a 99 year lease.
