The UN climate change summit begins on Monday with a warning that today’s generation is the last that can prevent catastrophic global warming, as well as the first to be suffering its impacts.

Almost 200 nations were set to meet in Poland for two weeks, aiming to hammer out a vital agreement to turn the carbon-cutting vision set in Paris in 2015 into reality. Moves to rapidly ramp up action would be another key goal, with current pledges leaving the world on track for a disastrous 3C of warming.

If we're going to limit carbon emissions who decides who gets to emit carbon?
 
And what's your opinion on the suggestion of the death penalty for polluters ?
 
David Attenborough has just finished his t.v. PLEA to nations to cut the crap. When that fails I think that offing a few polluters might become popular.

Just a few years ago I would have bet that the American conservatives would not have enough impact on this issue to steer the world further in the direction of self-annihilation.

I was wrong.
 
Scientific illiteracy baffles me

Republicans and other Luddites consistently deny issues that have a scientific basis. They've done this for decades even in the face of overwhelming evidence contrary to their beliefs.

For example, the medical community told people for years that smoking tobacco was bad for you. But Republicans and tobacco growers denied these facts because it impacted their business and "free will" as citizens to make their own choices. Never mind that smokers end up costing our society tremendous amounts of money in medical costs.

Republicans don't believe in human-caused climate change. Yet this issue will dramatically change our planet and could possibly spark an extinction event causing the deaths of hundreds of millions of people and animals.

There are numerous other similar examples of Republicans denying things that are scientifically proven. (I doubt one could find any Progressives who believe the Earth is flat!)

And yet, Republicans are more than willing to use science for themselves. They use cellphones and GPS devices which wouldn't be possible if Professor Einstein hadn't done some very specific and remarkable research and made incredible discoveries.


  • They are more than willing to use advanced medicine if they or their family get sick.
  • They are more than willing to fly in an airplane which wouldn't be possible if their anti-science attitudes had prevailed.
  • They even drive automobiles which are the result of more than one hundred years of engineering and research.

I think this logical disconnect is called hypocrisy. :rolleyes: :seenoevil::hearnoevil::speaknoevil:

I don't believe any of you that claim it is occurring have the guts to voluntarily stop breathing and emitting the CO2 you say is causing the warming. Stand up for the cause you say support.

Why haven't those who say CO2 is causing manmade global warming voluntarily stopped breathing and emitting the very thing they say is causing the problem?
I think it's called hypocrisy.
