High inflation locked in as major campaign headwind for Dems: 'Motivating issue'

Inflation generates rent increases in cities riddled by crime
Newsweek deputy opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon joins 'The Evening Edit' to discuss President Biden's California visit, rent increases in high-crime cities and Ohio's tight Senate race.
Thursday's inflation numbers said consumer prices rose faster than expected in September, and the inflation rate remained near 40-year highs, likely cementing voter worries about the state of the economy as they head to the polls in November.

It was the last report on consumer inflation voters will see before they vote Nov. 8, and election watchers said inflation seems likely to be a major issue for voters, even as other issues like abortion and democracy compete for their attention.

"It's the kind of thing that impacts everyone at every level of our social status and economic status," Matt Germer, a resident elections fellow for the libertarian R Street Institute, told Fox News Digital.

"We all buy groceries, we buy gasoline, we pay our utility bills. And when those are going up month after month, it's putting budgets under pressure. And that's the kind of thing that motivates people in November."

People get wake up calls all week long....Everyone needs some rest....Hopefully that opportunity will come in just a few weeks....

Indeed, TOP.

If this election does not change Congress, we can fold the flag and go home.

I'm hopeful....The economy, education, crime...people are finding out that things MUST change.... The future of the family is going to win....

The recession is worldwide, not just in the US. The world economy is cyclical. Why didn't trump's tax cuts fix the economy? They're still in effect. I guess the "payday" rich people and corporations got the last 4 years didn't "trickle down". An American president can't be held responsible for the world's woes, but Republicans are stupid.

I rarely do any grocery shopping other than a quick in and out for a couple things. I hate it,...my wife loves it, takes her forever because she sees people she knows and chit chats. LOL Anyway,....I went yesterday and did a little more than my usual. I was frikkin FLOORED at some of the prices. The bacon was eye popping for one. Not a good situation. Those at lower income levels must be REALLY suffering. And even if you do earn a good living its still not good because who the hell wants to pay MORE? Nobody.

It's gotten downright ridiculous.

City dwellers take cabs, bus or subway.

Most of the people who make the economy the major issue have no fucking idea whatsoever what causes economic circumstances--and they don't care.

The average American voter, sorry to say, is simply not intellectually qualified to vote.

We're fucked for a multitude of reason, failing to commit to education being just one of them,
and lack of solidarity due to the absence of ethnic and ideological homogeneity being possibly another,
even though we wish that it weren't.

Huh? I haven't bought a drop of gasoline in over a year, just like all EV owners. I love my EV. You should buy one.

What % of american drivers have an EV? My bet? under 2 or 3 % but I could be off a percent or 2.

It takes carbon based energy to produce EV’s and the batteries that power them.

The cost of EV’s excludes the majority of Americans.

I like to speed my gas guzzling truck past EV's revving the engine as I go as I throw plastic bottles out the window!

The national average for a house is now just shy of $400,000. Mortgage rates have gone over 6%. That happened in less than the last two years by the way. The "American Dream" is vanishing PDQ and guess who's fault that is...
