Was justice served???

Ah good, the "parent's know" argument" It's pretentious bull**** when people talk about a child needing it's natural mother, it's pretentious bull**** when parents talk about how involved they are in their child's life. Being a parent is not hard, otherwise most parents could do it. I reject the concept that just because a child is involved people feel the need to check the box marked "Logic not applicable". I don't need to "raise and rear a child" to figure out that death is bad.

so you do not have any children

Rarely however does the execution of a condemned criminal result in more murders against the victim's family. The point of a justice system is to take the personal revenge out of retribution. And when the government gets it wrong, there's actually some appeals, rather than just getting a bullet in the head.
when the government gets it wrong, we as a society have royally screwed up. but it's hard to claim innocence when you were witnessed plowing in to the truck and family, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Considering his blood alcohol was more than twice the legal limit, it was probably pretty obvious that he was drunk, not to mention the fact that he had just plowed into a vehicle being pushing by a man and 2 boys down a residential street.

Untrained individuals should not be given free reign to execute people based on the appearance of intoxication. People in the heat of the moment make mistakes and don't always consider all the facts.

While this guy should get some understanding we can't let people take the law into their own hands in this way.

Being involved in a fatal car accident does not prove guilt of anything.

I never said he should have done what he did, nor did I say it was acceptable. I simply stated that I can understand WHY he did it.

I can understand it too, but then I am not sure whether he was aware the guy was drunk.

We can't be sure it would have mattered. Obviously something was wrong, because he plowed into the truck and killed two children. Would the father have shot him if he had been texting? We have no way of knowing. But considering his blood alcohol level was 0.175 (and you are legally drunk at 0.08), I'm would guess it was not hard to determine.

But the fact is that a man plowed into this pickup truck and killed an 11 year old boy and a 12 year old boy, both right in front of their father. If you cannot see why that would cause the father to lose it, there is no explanation I can offer.

If drunk drivers should be executed, we should pass a law making that their sentence. He is not a special snowflake who just gets to do whatever he pleases. The law exists for a reason, and he is not above it. He knew what the law was, he chose to violate it, he should face the consequences. If he did so in a moment of anger, that is a mitigating circumstance, not an excuse.

A system of justice involves a trial and a sentence handed down according to rules prescribed by society. Anything contrary to that is injustice, and should be punished.

if you think that system works, i have a tollbooth to sell you...

i tend to agree, however, anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car while impaired, deserves whatever the law or in some cases a distressed parent, relative or sibling does to them...

Being drunk is no justification for making a mistake that kills other people. Where I in that father's shoes I would have dragged the man from his car and beat him to death right on the spot.
Guy was hammered and had to be easily seen that he was after he plowed into the truck killing the kid.
A clear case for no excuse and no mercy. Take my child's life by making a stupid decision you have to expect very dire
consequences from me the law be damned.

I already stated that I have empathy for the father. The drunk driver could have been perfectly sober and I would still have empathy for the father. But, he is going to have to face some sort of consequence for his actions.

i sincerely doubt that, too many legislators have driven drunk and sympathize with drunk drivers...the result is watered down drunk driving laws in too many states

?

The father is going to have to face some sort of consequence. The drunk driver is dead.
