Was it Cowardice by Police in the Texas school shooting?

'Cowards': Uvalde Cops Face America's Wrath Over Bungled Shooting Response

Sure as hell looks like it?!!

Police are facing heavy criticism and being labeled "cowards" for their response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, this week.

A total of 19 children, two adults and the alleged shooter Salvador Ramos were killed amid the shooting on Tuesday. Outrage has erupted online and on cable news after it was revealed that local police went inside the building minutes after the gunman entered unchallenged but quickly retreated and took cover. Ramos was killed by border patrol agents more than an hour later.

Texas Department of Public Safety (TDPS) Lieutenant Chris Olivarez told CNN that police did not engage with Ramos further due to concerns that they would have taken fire and officers "could have been shot." The word "cowards" trended on Twitter in reference to the police after news of the delay emerged.

"The Uvalde police were a bunch of gutless cowards who shamed their badges," British TV personality Piers Morgan on Friday. "Heads should roll, and some of them should be charged with criminal negligence. They let those kids die."

Was it cowardice? Yes. I don't blame them though. I'm not an expert on Uvalde but I've driven through it many times, it's a very small town and I'm willing to bet most of their police force is either part-time or perhaps unpaid volunteers. They're not a professional big city force and because of that they have their limitations.

I am truly baffled as to why he was able to buy an AR-15, just after he turned 18, but couldn't buy a handgun until he turned 21.

pistols kill many more then long guns. Federal law is 21 for a pistol, but 18 for a long gun
on the theory rural people use long guns for more then murder.

Mr Saturday Night Special - Leonard Synyrd
Hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else.
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself.

You got a barrel that's a-blue and cold.
So ain't good for nothin'
But put a man six a-feet in a hole

I think it was a combination of never having experienced this sort of event before (though they had trained for exactly that on multiple occasions) and fear for what that weapon could do. Their active shooter protocol explicitly states to take out the shooter as soon as possible to minimize loss of life. To save lives. They not only waited and waited while children who were still alive eventually were murdered but they stopped parents from doing what any parent would do with or without a gun.

That was pure cowardice in my opinion. How they will live with themselves when the impact on that small town will be felt for generations is beyond me.

So, what if your ban was in place and that nutjob in Uvalde chose to buy say, five of these and use them on the school instead? No regulations on these right now.

You see, your knee jerk reaction is to ban the tool rather than do something to fix the problem. What you suggest is banning hammers because they smash thumbs.

Hmmm pretty sure you can stop it with a water hose and a broom.

:bigthink:

another example of cognitive dissonance......believing that individuals armed with guns are so incompetent that they'd end up shooting other innocents, or themselves, before they ever ended a mass shooting yet are high expert waterhose marksmen capable of dispatching flying drones and putting out fires.......
:chuckle:

Um did you watch the video I replied to?

I agree. The only difference I can see between this horrendous event and the one at Parkland where the security guy hid outside is the number of armed protectors hiding outside at Uvalde.

19 cops. One for each child they let die. Is that not ironic?

There is cause for outrage. But even so, it's most likely that the shooter had already done his work within minutes, and then barricaded himself in that classroom. It's hard to say that going in earlier would have made much difference.

But yet, how many children lay there wounded and bled to death in the hour the police waited for backup?

I am just going to say this just for thought!

To the policeman's defense- THEY ARE ASKED TO GO IN WITH WHATEVER THEY HAVE, normally unarmored, a handgun, and face Military weapons of mass destruction and gunmen who are fully protected by Body Armor.

And in the case of this shooter- 6 30-round bullet clips!

We are basically asking our police officers to go and sacrifice their own lives for a cause of saving lives- WHEN POLICE ARE OUT-ARMED BY THE GUNTARDED ASSHOLES GONE POSTAL!!

That does ask a lot of our policemen!

Did you know that in the UK and many other civilized countries, most beat cops do not even carry guns- THEY DON'T REALLY NEED THEM!

Just wanted to throw that out there!

Using America as an example of promoting guns and placing their importance over human life......................

DOES ANYONE THINK THAT COUNTRIES LIKE THE UK are saying to themselves- MAYBE WE SHOULD HAVE A 2nd AMENDMENT LIKE THE UNITED STATES?

I don't think so!

Most countries think the United States have their priorities all fucked up!

Hello Lurch,

Obviously, I'm new here. One thing I've noticed. Very few people who ID as "conservative" have any soul. This latest massacre has been a great litmus test. Those who show no sympathy for the kids and just gleefully taunt and troll are going on my ignore list. This latest shooting, although really tragic has really shown people here for what they are.

Those without empathy go on ignore.

I put people on Ignore if they mouth off at me. And I do my best to make my policy clear and up front so it is well known. Every right wing poster here so far has done that sooner or later.

There are people who are right of center that I can have a respectful conversation with, but nobody on the far right. They are all too full of anger, and they seem to be just looking for somebody to dump on. I come for political discussion, not to be an enabler for internet abuse.

A large Ignore List is necessary in order to have functional conversations here. And really, there is so much activity here it is not possible to keep up with it all, so I just want the higher quality posts for my limited time spent here.
