War on Terror fail: 5 X as many terrorists now

But what do they use to recruit with?

Again, I'm no expert. I'm sure you'd like to say it's solely the religion, but w/ any extremist group, it's more about giving people an (albeit warped) sense of identity and belonging, and a purpose.

Blaming Islam is, imo, lazy & generally counter-productive. For starters, Islam isn't going away. But we mostly ignore the reasons people are attracted to radicalism.

I'm just mystified as to where you got the bolded. We were talking about root causes - not whether or not radial Islam is an "ideology."

Cripes.

I said the root cause of radical Islam is radical Islam lol.

And you called that an 'ignorant myth'. Though I'm still waiting to hear what is either ignorant or mythological about it.

Better go back & read what you were responding to, and what you wrote. I'm starting to worry, Darth.

Not that I'm an expert, but without doubt, poverty & lack of education are huge contributing factors.

And yeah, when people are poor & desperate, radical Islamic groups have an easier time recruiting.

While I think those conditions certainly make it easier for them to recruit, that is not the root cause of terrorism. The root cause is the radical ideology that a very small portion of 'Islamic' people follow. The ideology that states that all those that do not follow said ideology are the enemy and must be destroyed or brought to compliance.

Extremists have ALWAYS warped religious & other beliefs for their own agenda. It's why I'm anti-religion in general. But as I stated previously on this thread, Islam isn't going anywhere, and we're treading water by focusing on the religion itself, or the "radical ideology" that was spawned from it.

As long as politicians want to make it a war between the west & Islam, it plays into the hands of extremists, and things will not get better.

Yup.

We've gone out of our way, for almost 15 years, to not say certain words so as to keep 'from playing into the hands of the extremists [aka radical Islamists].

How's it working thus far?

I don't think it's consequential either way. I think it's absolutely hilarious that you think uttering "radical Islamic terrorism" will have any effect whatsoever. But please, utter all you want. I don't really care.

Your thinking on this topic is so simplistic & so linear. It boggles my mind that you think a phrase holds the key to solving terrorism.

It is - I never said it wasn't. You're the one moving goalposts all over this thread. Ridiculous that you claim I'm defecting - try to stick to the topic.

You found yourself straddling the fence on it so you went to deflect mode lol.

I know how you roll, Thing. Since you kinda/sorta concede radical Islam is an ideology, how can that ideology *not* be the root cause of Islamic terrorism?

What the fuck?

God, you're an idiot, Darth. And I mean that. You started out saying that radical Islam was the root cause of terrorism. Then, you tried to say that you claimed that radical Islam was the cause of radical Islam.

If poverty & lack of education are the root causes, then that might indicate that the ideology is not a cause of terrorism. Just the fact that you see no other possibilities reinforces what I said about your linear thinking.

I'm tired of your nonsense on this thread. Your understanding of this topic, like most, is practically nil. I feel dumber even having this conversation w/ you.

I agree. Hence the term Extremists. Again... it is not a war on ISLAM. It is a war on the radical element of Islam. Allowing them to run around unchecked is hardly going to help the situation. It would only embolden them.

What other possibilities? Poverty? Poverty is global but not every region is a hotbed of Islamic terrorism. Why is that?

You prefer willful ignorance on this subject. Unfortunately for us, you're hardly alone.
