“What I have found appalling is the number of leaks that have taken place over the last several months,” former CIA Director John Brennan said at the SALT conference in Las Vegas, the annual gathering of hedge-fund managers and other financiers. “This needs to be stopped.” Brennan was CIA director during President Obama’s second term, stepping down in January, when Mike Pompeo replaced him.

Brennan said Trump made a “serious mistake” when he reportedly shared sensitive intelligence with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, in an Oval Office meeting in early May. But this mistake wasn’t sharing intelligence; it was violating the protocol for doing so. “I shared intelligence with the Russians when I was the director of the CIA,” Brennan said. “But you share that through intelligence channels, and you make sure you word it in such as way as to not reveal sources and methods. President Trump didn’t do that.”

Brennan said the press coverage of Trump’s impromptu intelligence reveal was “hyperbolic” and more damaging than anything Trump revealed. “The damage that was done is what was leaked in the aftermath, what was put in the media. The real damage to national security is the leaks.” He suggested, without saying so explicitly, that news accounts revealed more sensitive information than Trump did.

Trump violated protocol ( as I've always said) keep doing that ( instead of peer to peer IC sharing with foreign intelligence agencies), and it could damage sharing.

But the real damage was done by WaPo
news accounts revealed more sensitive information than Trump did

But the sharing of the info itself was not damaging -it was the process.

WaPo revealed much more then Trump did ( the source location).

all that pales to the constant leaking..it's damaging on many levels

I've said this from day one. The real harm came from the leakers and the lefty media publishing it.

Interesting to know Obama's CIA pick agrees with me.

Trump allegedly did this in a moment of bragging - hardly a surprise if true. What kind of confidence do you think that inspires in our intelligence sources around the world? Does anyone think we can keep a secret anymore?

The NYTimes, and WaPo are doing what they did during the election -essentially advocacy journalism.
Their only criteria is "if it hurts Trump,it's newsworthy"

I don't even bother going to their internet sites daily anymore..they have become essentially a narrative/agenda driven coverage

The harm comes from the leakers and the lefty media. The intel sharing had been happening under Obama's watch, but you never heard about it. Now, you're concerned.

The singular protocol violation isn't that big of a deal..Israel didn't think so.
Now if it kept going on and on -then yes it would be.

If you are honest about it,the sharing wasn't damaging by Trump.
He did not share "sources and methods" unlike WaPo did.

I know Trump has made this so called war with the media, but this time, this is beyond Trump. The media harmed national security and are proud of it.

The context of bragging has been talked about extensively with regard to this incident. Everything is still alleged & we don't have a named source, but really - would it be a surprise? He certainly did NOT go through usual protocol, and while it's legal for him to share classified information in that manner, it's hardly intelligent. We did not have the source's permission to share it in that manner.

You're making excuses for Trump and trying to deflect blame to WaPo. The media should NOT cover this kind of story up when they hear about it...is that what you're suggesting they do? WaPo was very careful about what they reported; they did not divulge any of the actual information. But it would be irresponsible for them to keep this story quiet if they got details on it from what they consider reliable sources. This is what the media is supposed to do.

Trump is wreaking havoc on foreign confidence in America as an ally and as a leader.

ridiculous..the media wasn't there i wasn't there, and "bragging" is simply pulled out of your ass.

None is making excuses. Protocol was violated. But Israel herself says it's not gong to effect I-sharing.

You are completely overlooking the damage done by publishing this.
Those "reliable sources" put sources and methods in anger. That wasn't done by Trump, it was done by WaPo..

Most damaging of all s the constant leaking, which you've failed to address at all.
