The increase in wages will cost approximately $300 million on top of wage hike plans that had been included in next fiscal year’s plans, the company said.

The hike will also increase the average hourly pay at Walmart for full-time employees to $14.50 from a current $13.85. The payscale for hourly workers will be from $11 to $24.70 per hour, the company said.

The company raised its minimum wage to $9 an hour in 2015. In 2016, it said employees who finished an internal training program would be eligible for $10 an hour. The retailer has spent about $2.7 billion to increase wages over the past few years.

The company is offering a one-time bonus to full and part-time employees based on their length of service, rising to $1000 for employees with 20 years of service.

Anybody working full time, 40 hours/week @ $11/hr would not qualify for Medicaid. For stock boy or cashier positions that's a decent minimum wage at the start of their employment. It's a typical job with health insurance benefits, retirement benefits, and vacation pay.

Most don't work 40 hours or even 32 because then they have to offer health insurance

I'm already aware that beginning in 2014, ACA caused a huge increase in the costs of the plans. And, that all people ANYwhere can always use the sliding scale services of their local State Health Departments.

This is one thing that pisses me off about Walmart. However, people continue to work there and more each day. For a comparison look at Costco vs Walmart. I worked at Costco once and they paid about $2/hr more starting and benefits after 90 days.
