I think you're right.. it's the "addictive" personality. Power corrupts, and they both wanted to be players... even if they were doing evil, they wanted a piece of the reward. Their pot of gold was more valuable to them than their country.

Poor Rudy. He's always been a total prick but if he'd just kept away from trump, he's still have his toy security company and he'd be fine.
