Honestly I usually only do it if I see them incapable of talking about any topic other than the person that seems to be their target. If they just stopped acting like the board is here for them to meme stalk their "nemesis" the force ignore feature would be unnecessary. Often the folks I use it on are otherwise intelligent folks that can speak on actual political topics, unless they "see" the post of their "nemesis"...

There is no rule about it, I just use it to keep the peace.

Banning the Douche Duck would mean banning his socks - which means 3/4th's of the left here.

Of course it would be a more intelligent board and actually attract quality members if the Duck was gone.

My understanding is that it has to be both posters... I'm not sure if that is the case , but that's what I was led to believe... I did not receive notification....It just happened...

It is an ignore I can set on a users account that they cannot remove.

If you simply were unable to stop stalking one person on the site, but otherwise were intelligent and could post inciteful remarks, I can set an ignore for that person on your account that you cannot remove. I basically force you to ignore that person.

Nah, it's an option we can use to allow folks to continue here that would otherwise wind up being banned entirely. Some folks demonstrably fail at being capable of letting things go, however this gives me an option short of banning them.

Oh, and this feature has been used by the site for over a decade. It was a feature on the last site, I even removed the "view ignored content" links from that software too.
 
There are people who should be banned entirely who aren't...
