Does Obama have the fortitude to wait? It would create a bit of chaos the next two months, but the article makes sense from a strategic point of view (Obama's that is).

Why not wait, let the Obama tax cuts expire and then go to the Reps and say 'we need to lower taxes on the low and middle income families'???

That is a lot easier than saying now 'lets extend the Obama cuts for the low and middle classes but not the upper echelon.'

Well, I guess I will pull a Desh/Jarod and start talking to myself on my threads... god damn, I am really boring to listen too, why the hell didn't anyone tell me???

You mean dying of polio while in office? Did they vaccinate against polio in Kenya when he was born?

Sorry I missed this. What you propose is very interesting and I belive likley a very real possabilty. Obama is not looking to get reelected anymore so he has more ability to push. The Republican House is up in a short two years so they have some pressure to come up with some results to show there voters.

Obama has a mandate! Why not!! Seriously sorry about not responding sooner...your name keeps me thinking you're someone else :-)

Bottom line is that we have a window from now until the end of 2013 to get stuff done that might be painful in the short term. Voters obviously have short term memories and thus anything that gets done prior to 2014 that causes short term pain will not likely be held against the parties.

That said, I think the idea of Obama waiting has merit.

Its looks like its the only way to get tax increases on the highest bracket. And that is what a majority of Americans want.

Yes it is. We've been listening to the screaming from the right for decades what's a few more months?

Given that Boehner has once again taken tax increases 'off the table', it seems to be the most viable option to take care of this. Not to mention it would automatically cut defense... which would force the Reps to compromise on other issues.

This is not without consequences as in the short term the market will not like the lack of decision before year end. In addition it may add to the polarization.

Boehner and McConnell wouldn't even take Obamas calls on the night he was elected...I wouldn't deal with them at all because they operate in bad faith.

I hope not we need two strong parties to function at our best.

Maybe some will wrestle the label back from the crazies.

That or a new party will emerge
