USA: The Iran War Is Terminated Because Trump Said So

Donald Trump notified lawmakers Friday that the Iran war has “terminated”—an effort to quelch the fight over the need for Congress to approve the conflict.
The White House laid out its rationale in a letter, obtained by Politico, as the Middle East conflict reached a 60-day legal deadline under which operations must halt unless lawmakers authorize military force. A ceasefire with Tehran, Trump argued, effectively stops the clock.
The missive seeks to head off a growing battle on Capitol Hill, where Trump faces the prospect of losing Republican support as the war stretches into its second month with no clear exit strategy. But the White House’s reasoning won’t sit well with Democrats and some Republicans, who argue the administration must wind down the campaign now that it has reached that benchmark.

Earlier last week, Secretary of Talking About War Pete Hegseth beta-tested this hooey before Congress.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, from whom shame long ago fled into the Witness Protection Program, stated flatly that the deadline was irrelevant because the United States was not at war in Iran.

Pro tip: If you are blockading ports, that's an act of war. It's why John F. Kennedy called the blockade of Cuba a "quarantine."

Words matter, and so does common sense.

Trump tries to sidestep Congress on Iran

Legally, the War Powers Resolution gives the president the ability to conduct military action for 60 days, but requires congressional approval after that — or for him to request an additional 30-day extension to wind down any operations.

That deadline is today.

But the White House is making a new argument in a letter to Congress, declaring that the “hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated,” even as the U.S. naval blockade of Iran’s ports continues.

The move comes after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made a similar argument during a Senate hearing yesterday that the ongoing ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran “pauses or stops” that 60-day clock.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., also repeatedly deflected NBC News’ questions about the 60-day deadline, arguing that “we are not at war.”

What war?
House Speaker Mike Johnson, from whom shame long ago fled into the Witness Protection Program, stated flatly that the deadline was irrelevant because the United States was not at war in Iran.
It isn't.

A blockade is not war, dope.
Words matter, and so does common sense.
Your word games won't work, dope.

No such Resolution, dope.

A blockade isn't 'hostilities', dope.

And the ceasefire continues, despite Iran trying to break it.

What war?

Iran’s latest AI Lego video marks a significant pivot. Instead of taunting the US military, it reflects a new chapter in which Tehran will seek peace by reaching out directly to the American people, bypassing the US government. It's a mirror image of the US strategy of the past decades. Some of the lines are quite noteworthy and will likely resonate with the anti-establishment sentiments prevailing among American youth in particular: "I love the constitution, the way it was meant. But not the way your leaders bypass consent..."

Indeed. It is "just a blockade" now... We've reached the 5 yard line, time to spike that footsball.... because nukes are of the Debil...

I am old enough to remember when Iranians sat in their homes watching American tv and movies wishing that Iran was more like America, wanting to be like Americans.....

Those days are gone gone gone.
