First, I'm not a liberal. Second, these sects have been at war with each other for hundreds of years. If we destroy the structure in their society, they all fight for control of the country. Not unlike what the U.S would look like if trump lasts 8 years.

The rioting in the streets started under Obama.

But you sir, are an Islamo-realist looking for a place to happen lol. Ann Coulter was onto something when she quipped that our best Middle East strategy is to conquer it and convert all the Muslims to Christianity.

Gone would be the religious imperative to engage in terrorism or war. No longer would anyone care about the Sunni-Shia split---much less, kill over it. Rape could no longer be justified by religion. Gay sex may still be preached against but throwing them off of buildings would be considered a grevious sin.

Etc...etc.

Despots like Assad know this better than the editorial board at the NYT and even better our own State Department.

With realpolitik, you pick the lesser poison.
