If you have to ask....could be the reason that you are a snowflake raised by the village. The purpose of the scouts was to promote respect, discipline, responsibility and self reliance in the youths of America....the original idea was borrowed from England and adapted to combat progressive ideologies here in the states where a great many people were moving away from rural America and into cities where the children soon lost all knowledge and respect to being self reliant and independent while becoming ignorant concerning nature and survival if and when the need should arise.

As exampled by your own ignorance. To most liberals....hunting your own food and providing for yourself means going to the corner mini-market in order to grab a bag of chips and a soda.

How in the hell does playing with knots and putting up tents teach "promote respect, discipline, responsibility and self reliance?"

It's an antiquated idea from the 19th Century, and in my neighborhood wearing the corny uniform with shorts could jeopardize your survival
