During a economic disruption, prices of some items may go up, and for others may go down. Sellers are more likely to just hold onto items that go down in price, so more items are going to go up in price. None of this is inflation, because it is not caused by monetary policy.
There is some inflation, but it is not off the charts like you claim.
And most Americans are doing quite well in terms of consumption. They are consuming more, not less. That may be an issue for long term health, but is not the problem you claim right now.
