A.To stop trespassing and illegal entry.

why build the wall?
Because we deport illegals and they return 3,4,5.6 times and commit heinous crimes.
or.
because they die in the desert and the humane thing to do is to stop them before they start.
or
because it's part of a border control system that sees different levels of enforcement depending on the POTUS..

The Congress is not going to do immigration reform until there is border security. that's a given.
Some of us would actually like to striaghten out the mess of years of neglect, and a wall is an essential part of that.

Which is why Obama is putting up a wall to begin with..so his "border" isn't compromised to begin with.

Most communities down here in Florida have gates, or Spanish style walls.
In the cities they do not.

So walls are called for or not, depending on the enforcement of security.

Buckley, a wall just means security, OK? Lots of people who don't have a wall have alarms, dogs, guns, security guards, fences, etc. A border wall in the long run is cheaper and require less kibble than 50,000 German shepherds.

Not having read this thread, I'm guessing the hypocrisy is that Obama's wall is equal to Trump's wall. Or something equally ridiculous.

it did protect China from nomadic incursions from internal Asia.

But conflating the Great Wall or the Maginot Line as a defensive fortification isn't a correct view.
We are not defending ourselves from Mexican Army ( or some such invader)

Tell us where you read or heard that the wall around Obama's private property is meant primarily to keep out Mexicans or to single out any other ethnicity or nationality for discrimination.
