LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.
Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.
No one was hurt, and nobody has been arrested. Most of the protesters returned to their union hall after cutting brake lines and spilling grain from car at the EGT terminal, Duscha said.
The International Longshore and Warehouse Union believes it has the right to work at the facility, but the company has hired a contractor that's staffing a workforce of other union laborers.
Thursday's violence was first reported by Kelso radio station KLOG.

Just wondering if your union ever instigated actions like this over the course of 38 years.
Thats what unions do....of course....once...we were on strike for 3 days....both sides moved and abracadabra, an agreement.

We screwed them pretty good over the years so alas, the company no longer exists as the powerhouse it once was....stock that was once well over $100 a share now enjoys a range of 3 to 7 bucks....employment that once was 7000 in manufacturing, now numbers less that 150 and no union workers at all in this location, sold and under new name...

our local had a very good working relationship with the company....probably because we served a lot of government contracts ....but thats just my personal opinion....

Hostage taking union president is Obama guest at speech tonight....

The White House has announced that nearly two dozen guests will sit with first lady Michelle Obama to watch President Obama deliver his jobs speech to a joint session of Congress.

The list of business, labor and political leaders includes GE Chairman Jeffrey Immelt, AOL co-founder Steve Case, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.

So a bunch of average Americans, sick of corporate greed, stoop up and made a statement...

One wonders how you would have described the actions of the participants of the Boston Tea Party.

Would you have referred to the participants as "thugs"?

What was the reason for this unlawfullness? Were they feeling oppressed?

And we now also know that Yurt would have had the original participants of the Boston Tea Party arrested for the crimes they committed that night in Boston.

Who'd a thunk it? Yurt would have been considered a Tory stooge in Colonial America!

false analogy. par for the course for you. no surprise you support kidnapping and violence from the left, but then whine and cry whenever there is supposed violence by the tea party. nice double standard.

Yurt is a tory stooge in modern america.

"Community/Union organizer and Chief"

Says it all right there. In 2007 he used ACORN and the Black Panthers. Now he has the money and the Big Unions in his hip pocket. Expect to see more thuggery in the coming year.

The Big cheese Obama and Hoffa are promoting it.

I can see it now: Poet and his band of merry mermen will take to the streets of DC dancing in tootooes screaming and yelling unfair practices

this story makes me wonder what the uproar would be like had this been TEA party activists who had stormed some union stronghold and held hostages.
