He needed to give them words of wisdom to avoid panic, but treat the threat very seriously. Waiting until the attack to call up the reservists? Ridiculous. They should have been training.

While what you wrote is true about the Republican Party**, you are forgetting the voters who have to pick between two viable candidates. If they pick Third Party they will be attacked by authoritarian assholes from both sides for throwing away their vote. In short, they will pick either a D or an R. If they don't like D's, then they will vote R. Red states will stay red.
