Unarmed on Campus... Call the cops, they will protect you... NOT

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) -- Campus police were unarmed on Thursday as they responded to reports of a gunman on the University of Rhode Island’s Kingston campus.

Though WPRI.com was told that police believe there was never a gun or active shooter at URI , it sparked interest in the long-time debate on whether campus police should carry guns.

They do at my school. So do some of my teachers.

Wow Damo, I thought for a moment this was another STY authority hatefest, but it's actually a story.

Personally I think the cops should carry on campus, I don't even have a problem with licensed concealed carry permits. While I'm not a believer in guns saving lives, I do think somebody should be able to radically discourage anyone who wants to shoot up a school.

fully trained cops are what should be at schools.

cops trained in full ready to be used elsewhere in the area if the need occurs.

fully trained and fully paid with the proper retirement in place.

You want the Kids safe then PAY the cost that comes with it.

what will the right do ?

make them take the money out of teachers pay

what do you have against teachers and parents carrying guns to protect the kids?

Cops who are responding to such calls should carry guns.

I have no problem with individuals carrying guns in most circumstances.

Where is this idea comming from that all Liberals want to take your guns?

and I need you to explain why it's preposterous. what do you have against that idea. you cannot equate it to confiscation, it simply isn't equatable.

We've had this dicussion. You introduce dozens of variables just by arming teachers at schools. Once you allow guns into the school environment, there are about 100 things that can go wrong, and maybe one that can go right.

have it again. why is the bolded DIFFERENT when you interchange teachers and cops?

So again, the only guns in the school environment will be the ones brought by the psychos. Great plan.

The teachers can either carry the weapons or have them in a gun safe. I would be interested in some of the things you think could go wrong...

If every teacher all of a sudden has a gun in school, how long do you think it will be before we read about a teacher who went jogging & just put the gun in their desk, and a student got ahold of it? Or a student who was able to grab it off of the teacher while he wasn't paying attention? Or someone who left the "gun safe" open by mistake?

You're going to tell me that introducing dozens if not hundreds of guns into schools all over America would go off without a hitch? You guys are real dreamers.

Teachers should not be allowed to carry guns to schools willy nilly, but I would not be opposed to one responsable party having a gun in a locked location. Maybe if this Newton school principal had a rifle locked in her office, she could have used it to save some lives.

LMAO... says the guy who thinks making certain types of guns and mags illegal will stop criminals. Talk about a dreamer.

That said, I think it is quite sad that you think so lowly of our teachers in this country. Obviously you take them for a bunch of buffoons that can't follow gun safety measures. You think they would just leave guns lying around or leave the gun safe open? That is almost as hilarious as your 'what if a student grabbed it off the teacher'.

Thanks for proving you have no clue about guns or gun safety.
