I still disagree with your assessment, Damo. It may not be the savior of the poor, but it will hardly be exclusively a rich person toy either.

Most pontoon boats and good bass boats cost as much as the Nissan LEAF, and they are certainly not reserved for rich people. Granted, the people buying them are rarely poor.
 
Alabamians are experts at pontoon boats, Damo.

Seriously, this stuff needs to go much further before it can be taken seriously. 100 mile ranges suck. Even for people who live in cities. Even my grandmother regularly drove too far away to get back home on one charge.

It will be better soon, but we can't afford to subsidize ourselves into bankruptcy in order to make them affordable for regular folks. First make them useful and comparable to today's product both in price and in usefulness, if it is comparable people will buy them.

I can already see the black market with this.
Guys will be standing around on street corners, going: "psst, wanna buy a battery?"
There will be "charge houses" where people will be stopping at, to buy electricity.

Right, and we all know that since these initial test models cost $41,000.00, therefore ALL electric cars for all time will cost just as much.

You need to realize this is an industry in it's infancy. The cars are expensive now, but are meant to be used as corporate fleet vehicles as well as by private citizens.

As the tech progresses, the price will come down.
