Ukrainian Biolabs Romney V. Gabbard.

WASHINGTON (TND) — Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard didn’t sit still after Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, called her out this weekend for allegedly “parroting false Russian propaganda.”

“Her treasonous lies may well cost lives,” Romney said of Gabbard, who has been sounding the alarm about the supposed existence of U.S.-funded biolabs in Ukraine.

“According to the U.S. government, these biolabs are conducting research on dangerous pathogens,” Gabbard said in a video she posted to Twitter Sunday.

Gabbard pointed to the potential these pathogens could be “inadvertently or purposely breached or compromised,” causing them to quickly spread all throughout Europe and the rest of the world.

So, in order to protect the American people – the people of Europe, the people around the world – these labs need to be shutdown immediately. And the pathogens that they hold need to be destroyed.
The World Health Organization (WHO), an agency of the United Nations, reportedly advised Ukraine to take the same measures, fearing Russia’s missile bombardment and troop movements could potentially lead the pathogens stored in Ukrainian labs to escape if one of the facilities were to be damaged or compromised.

Tulsi Gabbard is parroting false Russian propaganda," tweeted Romney. "Her treasonous lies may well cost lives.
Gabbard refused to sit back after Romney took his shot, slamming him in a lengthy Twitter thread Monday.

“Mitt Romney, you have called me a ‘treasonous liar’ for stating the fact that ‘there are 25+ US-funded biolabs in Ukraine which if breached would release & spread deadly pathogens to US/world’ and therefore must be secured in order to prevent new pandemics,” tweeted Gabbard. “Bizarrely, you claim that securing these labs (or even calling for securing these labs) is treasonous and will lead to a loss of life, when the exact opposite is obviously true. The spread of pathogens is what will cause the loss of life, not the prevention of such spread.”

There has been ongoing debate around whether such U.S.-funded chemical and biological labs in Ukraine actually exist.

Last week the State Department’s Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, acknowledged “Ukraine has biological research facilities, which, in fact, we are now quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces may be seeking to gain control of.”

Nuland said nothing of U.S. involvement in those labs, but indicated the State Department was working with the Ukrainians to “prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach.”
